Police are investigating an attempted robbery that became a shoot-out in the 2900 block of North Newstead Avenue last night at 9:30 p.m. According to the incident summary, a 31-year-old black man was nearing a convenience store when a 20-to-25-year-old black man approached him with gun drawn and told the would-be victim to "give it up."

The man was shot once in the shoulder during the firefight, while the suspect took off running, heading south on Newstead. The robber is described as being approximately 5'10'' with a thin build and short braided hair. He was wearing a dark green or black t-shirt and blue jeans. It's unknown if he was injured in the exchange of gunfire.
