Police were called to the 6200 block of Famous Avenue in Dogtown on Tuesday for a reported burglary in progress. When they arrived just after noon, the burglary turned into a shoot-out and pursuit that still continues today.

According to the police incident summary, the responding officers, a 48-year-old female with 23 years of service and a 38-year-old female with 10 years on the force, found a blue SUV idling in the rear alley. The back door of the home was open. The more experienced officer approached the vehicle and saw two people inside.

They clearly saw her as well, as the passenger raised his gun and fired.

The officer took cover and returned fire as the SUV took off. Meanwhile, the second officer encountered another suspect exiting the home. This suspect was also armed, and fired at the officer simultaneously with her shooting at him. This man was Brandon Jones, a 22-year-old black male, who died from his injury.

Two more suspects, a 20-year-old black male and a 19-year-old black male, also exchanged fire with the officers, then ran toward the front of the house and into the neighborhood. They were captured an hour later in the 6400 block of Manchester Avenue.

The SUV was also recovered, abandoned in the 2900 block of Pestalozzi Avenue. The driver and passenger have not been located, and police continue to seek them.

Both of the police officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure for a police-involved shooting.
