Business Owner Injured in Shoot-Out with Apparent Robber

The owner of Union Market (1916 North Union Boulevard in Wells-Goodfellow) was locking up the business last night at 1:15 a.m. when someone emerged from the darkness of the gangway. The newcomer had a gun, and started shooting -- but so did the businessman. Both men fired several rounds, and the shopkeeper was struck in the ankle. His assailant fled, enabling his victim to summon a relative to take him to the hospital. He's now listed in serious condition.

The suspect is described as being a black man in his late teens or early 20s, 5'6" and 145 pounds, wearing dark clothing. It is unknown if he was injured during his foiled attack.
