They're annoying, yes, but let's not shoot kids.
Police say a 56-year-old man in the Botanical Heights neighborhood was upset with some neighborhood kids shooting off fireworks last night, and he allegedly decided to fight fire with gunfire.

The kids were riding bikes and lighting fireworks around 9:45 p.m. in the 4200 block of McRee Avenue, when the man, who has not been identified, confronted them. (Perhaps he was helpfully reminding them that fireworks are illegal in the city.) Angry words were exchanged, which resulted in the man drawing his gun and opening fire. On a group of kids.

An 11-year-old boy was shot in the leg, but his injuries are not considered serious. He is refusing to cooperate with the police, however. The shooter is in custody
