Former RFT staffer John H. Tucker won "Best News Feature" for his story "Knockout King" about the street "game" that cost the life of an elderly St. Louis immigrant last year. Staff writer Nicholas Phillips was a finalist for "Best Investigative Story" for his report on the allegedly race-fueled killing of a man outside a nightclub in East St. Louis, "Left for Dead." And former staff writer Albert Samaha was a finalist in sports reporting for his article "Intentional Grounding" on the embattled East St. Louis High School football team and its coach.
Village Voice Media publications dominated the competition for publications under 150,000 circulation, picking up a total of twelve of fifteen finalists slots. See all the finalists and winners here.
