MO Public Safety Director Jerry Lee's Car Burgled in Broad Daylight in Forest Park

| Jerry Lee came to St. Louis and had the full experience. |
Look, car break-ins happen in this town. My neighborhood has had several in the past few weeks. But when the top guy at the state's agency dedicated to "ensuring the safety of the citizens of Missouri" is a victim of crime when he's in St. Louis, it's hard not to feel like something's broken with this town.
Police Department Special Operations Unit Commander Captain Ronnie Robinson gave an interesting interview with KMOX Sunday that specifically mentioned the problem St. Louis has with gun theft, specifically guns stolen from cars.
He says many of the stolen guns were left in cars by licensed gun owners, "They don't have the right training as far as how to maintain their weapon and conceal their weapon in a proper space or when they're traveling and they can't go in venues that don't allow you to carry your weapon. They leave them in their cars and these individuals, they break in cars and they steal a lot of weapons out of cars."Which is not to imply that Lee has no idea how to handle or transport his gun. But according to the Post-Dispatch, Lee had his gun in a duffel bag in the car. Not in a locked carrying case, and not even in the trunk.
This is St. Louis. Ask any of the locals and we'll tell you -- you can't leave your stuff out in the open when you park. If you do, you may as well lay out a welcome mat and leave a mint on the passenger seat.
