Police say a  trio of men in their early 20s were parked in the 800 block of South Leonor K. Sullivan Boulevard on the riverfront at 1:35 a.m. last night when they were approached by two black men and a white man, all in their early 20s.

Two of the newcomers produced small pistols and ordered the trio down on the ground, while the third man went through their pockets. The robbers took two cell phones, a camera and their wallets, then hopped in a white pick-up truck and a blue or black Mazda 6 with Illinois plates.

With valuables in hand and an easy escape in front of them, the robbers drove off. But not before two of the suspects fired multiple shots at their victims, who were still face-down on the ground, striking one of the young men in the right foot.

Police report that the injured man is in a local hospital in stable condition. They continue to investigate the robbery.
