Rep. Todd Akin Receiving Rape Threats; Capitol Police Try to Determine if They're Legitimate
The capitol police and the FBI are both investigating these threats, which come in the wake of Rep. Akin's controversial and since-recanted comments about "legitimate rape" and the apparent decision-making prowess of the vagina.
In light of all that, it should come as no surprise what the nature is of the threats made against Akin and family.
Steve Taylor, the Akin campaign's communication director, released the following statement on the matter:
"Capitol police are working with an outside law enforcement agency regarding threatening contact with our official office. The office of Congressman Akin has received threats of rape of his official staff, family and the Congressman himself along with suggestions that individuals should die."Not that such threats are making Akin consider his campaign. Just this morning on his Facebook page, Akin's team celebrated reaching $150,000 in small-dollar contributions from his grassroots supporters, and urged his followers to push on to $200,000. These are not the actions of a man who's shutting down his campaign, rape threats be damned.
