UPDATE: Todd Akin Issues Video Apology for "Using the Wrong Words in the Wrong Way"

Senate candidate Rep. Todd Akin has issued a formal video apology for his recent comments on rape and abortion -- it's so formal in fact that it lacks any of the sensitive music beloved of politicians when they make ads about hot-button issues.

In the 30-second spot, Akin reminds us he's the father of two daughters, and that that means he wants "tough justice for predators."

He then rolls back his earlier, inflammatory statements by saying "The fact is, rape can lead to pregnancy."

Well, let's watch the video and then continue this discussion. [UPDATE: Talking Points Memo notes that the Akin campaign has disabled comments on the video, after dislikes outpaced likes by a roughly 13-to-1 ratio.]

I dunno, Todd. I'm not sure this is enough to repair our relationship. And by "our relationship," I mean me as a voter and you as a guy who wants my vote. I have no daughters and I want "tough justice" for predators, so perhaps there's a little common ground there.

But I'm not so sure that "I used the wrong words in the wrong way" really recants your earlier stated belief that if a woman is the victim of "a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down." You seem to believe voters are offended by your belief in various kinds of rape -- "legitimate" as opposed to, I dunno, informal maybe? -- which is nuts, don't get me wrong.
