Nelly: No Idea Tour Bus Was Full of Drugs and "Mad As Hell" [UPDATE]

"Wasn't me."
Update: Some measured words from Jay E, the producer of Country Grammar and frequent Nelly collaborator.

Yesterday, news broke that Nelly's tour bus was stopped at a Texas border patrol checkpoint and cops found an obscene amount of drugs onboard.

One person -- Brian Keith Jones -- took the fall, claiming all ten pounds of weed, the 36 baggies of heroin, and a loaded .45 pistol were his. Jones was arrested and carted off to jail.

Nelly and his management remained mum on the incident until late yesterday afternoon, when the rapper broke the silence in the media and on Twitter.

Here's what Nelly told TMZ:

"It is my understanding a member of my staff made an unfortunate decision to bring unlawful materials onto our tour bus that resulted in his arrest this morning."

"Neither I nor anyone else on the tour bus was aware of his decision to bring these on board. Law enforcement officials did not press charges against anyone other than that individual."

So, it appears Nelly's pleading ignorance. To recap, there were ten pounds of vacuum-sealed marijuana in a duffle bag in the bus's undercarriage compartment, and the heroin and gun were found in the bus's main cabin in a cardboard box.

Nelly was far more candid about the matter on Twitter.

Drugs on a rappers tour bus, or any musical tour bus for that matter, is shocking. I had no idea anything like that ever happened.

The bigger story? It was the same checkpoint that got Snoop, Willie, Fiona Apple... Really guys? When are you going to learn to not step near that checkpoint with anything?
