Police Arrest Man They Accuse of Robbing Victims Then Shooting Them in the Face

Cops arrested Newman Wednesday.
So far he's only been charged with felony robbery and armed criminal action for one of the incidents, but police are saying that citizen informants and shell casings gathered from the scenes link them together (and he may be linked to as many as nine similar crimes).
The most recent crime: At 6 a.m. on Wednesday, a 27-year-old med student named Halley Briglia was approached by a man (allegedly Newman) as she walked to her car on on the 1600 block of South Spring. This is about a block from Newman's listed address on the 3800 block of Folsom.
The man robbed her of her purse then shot her in the face. She's reportedly now in ICU at Saint Louis University Hospital.
On October 16, a twenty-year-old woman was walking from the bus stop to her mother's house on the 3400 block of Russell when a man (allegedly Newman) robbed her of her Samsung Galaxy tablet, a T-Mobile Sidekick cell phone and cash. She fell down during the robbery, breaking her arm. The robber shot her in the face, leaving her with a bullet wound in her left cheek.
That's the incident for which Newman now faces felony charges of robbery and armed criminal action.
On October 14 at around 10 p.m., an Asian couple was unloading their vehicle on the 2200 block of South Grand (on the border between Compton Heights and Shaw).
They told the police later that a black male (allegedly Newman) walked up, showed a handgun and demanded their property.
When he got it, he told the victims to run. He then fired several shots at the male victim, who was hit in the leg and hand.
Newman has prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance and armed criminal action in 2012, as well as robbery and armed criminal action convictions from 2008. He's on probation for all these offenses.
