If the bridge isn't named for Stan, name it for a famous St. Louisan who died in defense of our country and won the Congressional Medal of Honor - Edward H. "Butch" O'Hare, yes the same O'Hare that Chicago's airport is named after. Butch lived in St. Louis and his dad worked in Chicago, for Al Capone. Chicagoans knew Butch's story and admired his bravery so much that they named something after him, even though he lived in St. Louis. What has this town done to honor him?

Ah, America.... athletes and people in sports are paid more than teachers, doctors, police, firefighters, etc. You know, those people who actually change the world. It's embarrassing how much athletes and the like get paid, same with celebrities, but to rename things to honor them for doing what?! Listen, I love sports. And I think Musial was probably a great man....but come on people.... We have huge issues in this country. If we put half of our passion for sports into politics and local governments, this country would be a much better place. Rest in peace to both of these men.

Worker.. they probably would have had something for him on it. Just because a legend died they wanna try and give him something. That worker gave something. . His life

I AGREE WITH THE PERSON THAT COMMENTED THAT STAN MUSIAL SHOULD HAVE A STREET NAMED AFTER HIM AND THE "HONOR" OF THE BRIDGE NAME SHOULD GO TO MR. GAMMON.  IF ANYONE IS MORE "DESERVING" OF THIS HONOR IT IS HIM BECAUSE HE GAVE THE CITY MORE THAN DIGNITY AND ACCOMPLISHMENT, HE GAVE IT HIS "LIFE" AND THIS IS SUFFICIENT TO COMMEMMORATE HIS LOSS! (SEE COMMENT BELOW) YES, WORKERS DIED BUILDING EADS BRIDGE BUT IT ENDED UP BEING NAMED AFTER IT'S "DESIGNER," STAN MUSIAL DID NOT "DESIGN" THIS BRIDGE, HE'S HAD PLENTY OF THINGS, A STATUE COMMEMORATING HIM, AND MORE...MR GAMMON SHOULD RIGHTLY GET THIS HONOR!

To build Eads Bridge, 15 workers died and dozens more were injured or disabled. Yet it bears the name of its brilliant designer. A plaque to remember Mr. Gammon is sufficient to commemorate his loss. But Stan Musial, a humble star who represented this city with dignity and accomplishment, definitely deserves a bridge. It's also fitting that the love for our team is on both sides of the river.

Stan should have a street named after him by the stadium.and Mr.Gammon should have a memorial plaque on the bridge. Both men gave their life serving missouri in one way or another.Stan is mostly known because of fame, money, and being in the spot light.obviously Mr.Gammon's road in life wasnt as popular as Stan's.God Bless both families of such great losses.

Lonnie is wrong. Illinois is spending $313 million on construction, $264 million of which is going to move I-70 in Illinois, with only $49 million being contributed to building the actual bridge, while Missouri is spending $115 million, $57 million of which is going to move I-70 in Missouri, with $58 million going towards building the bridge. The rest of the $239 million it will take to complete the bridge was given to us by a federal grant. So, if you really want to get down to brass tacks, Missouri is actually contributing more toward the bridge. Not our fault Illinois is so backwards they have to spend so much money to fix their own highway. As for the original point of this topic, I agree fully with Peggy's response.

Illinois is paying for most of the cost of building the brige, so don't get your hopes up Missouri.

Andy. No if's and's or but's about it. Stan has a statue and fame already does he really need a bridge too?

People die and people die at their jobs regularly, especially in a job like Andy had. It sets the wrong precedent to begin to naming things after people just because they worked on something and died. The point of memorials is partially so that after you've died, your life meant something to enough people that they choose to build something or name something in your honor. While I am sure Andy meant everything to his family, the truth is he meant nothing to us just like we meant nothing to him or his family. People die every day, people rarely live the way Musial did.

Name it after Andy. We can find something better to name to honor musial. Like Market St. or highway 70 from coast to coast.

I don't think it has to e name after anyone, but if it is it should be for Andy. Stan is honored and will be honored around St. Louis in a plethora of other ways, lets pay homage to those who helped build this great city as well.

What about all the people who have died while driving over bridges? Should we name the bridges after them? If they want to do a plaque, that's understandable. But, do we even know anything about this man's personal life? It makes sense to name it after Stan Musial. He wasn't just an athlete. He was a St. Louis icon and he made an enormous contribution to the city. No one will ever forget him, and he should be memorialized as such. He didn't need to die on the bridge to have it named after him.

Stan would scoff at being called a celebrity...especially seeing as he DID scoff at it his whole life. It is tragic what happened to Gammon but what did he do for MO/IL - STL? What did Stan do? Compare these and choose. I may have Stan on the brain right now but there is no one else in STL that has done as much as Musial. A plaque commemorating his (Gammon's) sacrifice should be place on the bridge but it should be named after the greater St. Louisan.

An athlete in a sports-first culture in a sports-first town vs. anyone else...? We'd probably be living in the city of Pujols in 2020 but thankfully he took that to Disneyland

Sorry, Gammon should be remembered somehow, but Musial did a whole lot for the community for 50+ years. It should be the Stan Musial memorial bridge.

Jennifer Mayfield

It should definatley be named after both of them musial-gammon memorial and its ridiculous to be even having this discussion when the answer's that simple.

Does the old courthouse *need* to be renamed after Dred Scott? Hint: No.

How bout "Standy"? after both ;)

Nothin' good happens on a bridge. Think about it. You only hear about a bridge when there's traffic, accidents, etc. Not sure a bridge being named for me would be an honor. IMHO.

Why do we continue to honor and memorialize celebrities at the expense of other people. Celebrities offer us a necessary escape from reality. But there are so many other people that go over and above the normal call of duty and sacrifice for the greater good and make an important impact on society. But we don't give them the honor that they are due.

Jacob DeVore
Jacob DeVore

And not Dred Scott... he has the Old Courthouse. He doesn't need a bridge, too.

Jacob DeVore

Give Mr. Gammon a plaque, or a stretch of highway, but if you name the whole bridge after him, nobody will know who that is. If that's acceptable, so is "Workers Who Died Building Bridges Memorial Bridge."

4-5 guys died building the arch but you don't see anyone naming that after them. I say we name it after Stan

im sure Stan would be cool with it being named after Andy.

If that was the case most of the large skyscrapers would be named after the workers that died building them. Maybe name the bridge after Stan, but the stretch of highway after Andy?

John Foughty

Ummm... How about the "Musial-Gammon Memorial Bridge"... Why does this have to be a polarizing question, one or the other? One gave a lot to this city, the other gave his life building this bridge. Honor them both.
