People should look at the forecast before they spout off like morons. The forecast included a good chance - not a certainty, I grant, but a strong chance - of up to 1" of FREEZING RAIN before the snow starts. Do you really want everybody to look out the door at 8 am, several hours before the front comes through, see that it's not snowing or raining yet, and idiotically conclude that since it's not storming at 8 am it won't be storming between then and 6 pm?

Freezing rain is a big deal. It renders even the best-prepared roads undrivable and brings down power lines and trees all over the place. If there is a strong chance of it, people need to be warned to stay home if they can, because guessing that it won't happen and finding out that you were wrong is not something that you want to risk.

Seriously, people - are you the same ones who ignore tornado sirens until you can see the tornado?

I don't think we're over reacting. There's nothing wrong with being prepared. Would you rather your kids get stuck on a bus trying to get home? Is the entire St. Louis economy going to fail, abecaUse of this? I think not. And imagine how many accidents are going to be avoided by staying in for one day.

This is pretty typical how they do it in northern cities when they are expecting blizzard like conditions before school will be getting out (I am currently in Northern Iowa etc) But not 2-5 inches. We are expecting 7-10 inches starting this afternoon but nothing will close because it won't start until late afternoon.
