A Missouri doctor is accused of inappropriately touching a female patient during an examination -- and then sending "sexually related text messages."

And police officials say that their investigation into Rajesh Malhotra, a 45-year-old Sikeston physician reveals that he might have a dozen more victims.

For now, the southeast Missouri doctor is not practicing and is instead in custody, facing charges of sexual assault and sexual misconduct.

And more charges are likely.

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter announced in a press release that investigators began working on the case last week after they were contacted by a female patient of Malhotra.

She reported that he had "touched her in an inappropriate manner and sent her sexually harassing texts.

A second victim then came forward and also reported that the doctor had touched her in an inappropriate way during an examination.

Scott County investigators are working with officials from the Bureau of Narcotic's and Dangerous Drugs and officials say they have located a dozen additional victims. They are in the process of meeting with them as part of an ongoing investigation and Walter says that it is likely additional criminal charges will be filed.

In the meantime, Malhotra remains in Scott County Jail with his bond set at $75,000.
