Taking hatred of the snowstorm to a whole new level?

We'll admit that one of the worst parts about snow in March is the agony of driving through this weather, and we can only imagine how horrible it would be to get in a collision. But gun violence is not the answer!

St. Louis police say that a 44-year-old woman was exiting I-70 eastbound at the Martin Luther King Bridge exit when an unknown man drove into her lane and collided with her. He apparently apologized. And then she started shooting.

Police list the location of the assault as North Third Street and the MLK Bridge and at this time say that the victim is an unknown white male.

The collision happened just before midnight last night, and after the man collided with the woman, she reportedly followed the vehicle and "blocked the victim's vehicle with her vehicle."

She exited her car, walked to the passenger's side of the man's car and told him that he had hit her car, police say, at which point he apologized -- and left.

Apparently not pleased with this interaction, the woman, whom police have not named, got back in her car and continued to pursue the vehicle that hit her. Then she opened fire on him on North First Street. He fled onto I-70, and the woman was arrested.

The shooting took place near Laclede's Landing, which has experienced a spike in violence in recent months.

Here's the full alert from police.

Incident: Assault 1st
Location: N. 3rd/ Dr. King/ N. 1st
Date/Time: 3/24/13 @ 23:58

her vehicle. The suspect exited her vehicle, walked to the passenger's side of victim's
vehicle and advised him he had collided with her vehicle. The victim apologized and
fled. The suspect re-entered her vehicle and continued to pursue the victim's vehicle,
firing two shots at the vehicle on N 1st Street. The victim fled onto Interstate 70. The
suspect was arrested. The investigation is ongoing.

I live very close to this intersection, but grew up in Clayton/Ladue. People are only going to be the victim so many times... The excuse that the Police are understaffed is only going to work so many times. Ive been in the same situation down here... the police did nothing to help, criminal got away, & I paid for the damage out of my pocket. When it comes down to protecting yourself, your loved ones, & your property..... You better be prepared to do it yourself. Its like the old west down here... & if you dont like it, stay in the County. She was wrong for shooting at him, & I dont agree w/that... but had he done the same to me, in the end he would have still needed Police assistance.

A title to a news story is intended to entice people to read it. Insofar as that goes, it worked. Certainly, it is helpful to read the article before offering an opinion. My opinion softened considerably when the man tried to drive away. Not that it is right to shoot at him.. but sometimes some people really don't entice me to stand up for them.

So if I ran up to someone and punched them in the face and then apologized.....

I agree with Patrice but I would add she should not have had a gun in the first place.

He drove off not once but TWICE! Also the title of this story is misleading and one-sided. Bad journalism at its finest. She should not have shot at him but he was no innocent bystander just walking by.

Both assholes! For those that didn't read he article, the dude wrecked into her car and tried to drive off. Hell yeah he better have been apologizing when she managed to block his exit. I'm not gonna say she was "right," but damn maybe that guy will think twice about being such a dick in the future.

Just because you own a gun doesn't give you the right to use it with impunity....sheesh! If I shot at every driver that made me mad, there'd be a lot less vehicles on the road....

Missouri state law has been that convicted felons cannot own guns. My preference would be that this be extended to federal law. One felony, no access to firearms - ever. The NRA has been funding and encouraging a repeal of these state laws. This is one of those common sense issues that people could come together on.

@Frankie Z Cammarata

This is why YOU are required by law to have liability/uninsured insurance just for such things. If I hit you and take off or stay yet am uninsured you're covered with your insurance.

@nmoungo , keep in mind we only have the police telling us what someone else has said. A hit and run driver could have been lethal, and self-defense is a right. If the story of her pursuing him is true, that defense goes out the window. But if someone tries to bumper cars on the highway, my life is endangered.

@triley71 , do not cuddle hit and run drivers. Uninsured or not, "I'm sorry" is inadequate. She should have copied down the license plate number and gave it to police and her insurance agent rather than shooting at him. But do not imply for one moment drivers should have their rates go up for irresponsible drivers. That hit and run driver should have his license revoked and car auctioned off to pay for damages.

Many hit and run drivers are carrying drugs, high, drunk, or uninsured. Jail time is what they deserve, and making it twice as difficult for them to get behind the wheel again.

@buddecj That a$$ burn you just received may take a while to heal you half wit.

@reed.reedly Hate to spoil it for you (and colbertbr, and TedMarmaladeModo (below)), but that IS NOT federal law, it is a Missouri Law. The link below provided by TedMarmalade is accurate, although it does not say anything about excluding all felons. So, who is the half wit after all?
