Anthony Sherrill, 38, was unloading his groceries from his car on Friday night when, according to St. Louis County police officials, two men approached him outside his home.

Sherill, who lived on the 5400 block of Hamilton Avenue, managed to briefly escape the suspects and ran inside his home, police say.

But the two men -- who at this time remain at large -- reportedly chased after him and shot him inside his home. Then they fled.

Did the suspects know Sherrill or was this a random homicide?

At this point, it remains unclear.

St. Louis County police, in a short news release sent out over the weekend, say only that a "motive is unknown at this time."

The department is still investigating the case and warrants have not yet been issued against any suspects.

The victim, who police identified early Sunday morning, was found inside his home by officers from the county police department's Jennings detail and was immediately taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Here's a video from KMOV (Channel 4) from the scene of the crime followed by the full police report.

Officers from the St. Louis County Police Department Jennings Detail responded to a shooting call at the 5400 block of Hamilton at around 8 pm on Friday, April 12, 2013. The victim was found inside the home and immediately transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Reports indicate that the 38 year old male victim was approached by two males as he was unloading groceries from his vehicle. The victim was able to run inside his residence, but was closely followed by the two suspects who shot him inside the residence and fled. Motive is unknown at this time.

The St. Louis County Police Department Division of Criminal Investigation Crimes Against Person Unit are investigating the case. Any further information relative to this case will be released at a later date or if warrants are issued.
