Update: St. Louis County police have made an arrest in the Jennings homicide this morning in which a mother was killed while her children were home -- prompting them to run to a nearby police station to report her death. Our original coverage is on view below.

Officials just announced that University City resident Terrrance Duff, 40 has been charged in the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend. He is facing one-count of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree burglary and one count of armed criminal action.

He was father to some of the six children present at the time of the shooting and police say he turned himself in at around 5 a.m.

Original post, 9 a.m.: In the middle of the night, a man allegedly shot and killed his ex-girlfriend in her Jennings home -- where six children were staying at the time of the violence.

Some of the kids ran to a nearby police station to tell the authorities that their mother had been murdered, and soon after, the 40-year-old man turned himself in, St. Louis county police say.

But by the time police arrived at the home, the woman, Antoinetta Davis, 32, was already dead, officials say.

This is the latest incident of domestic violence in St. Louis, following reports just over a week ago of a Town & Country man beating his wife to death. In February, also in Jennings, a man was accused of stabbing his estranged girlfriend to death in front of her two children. One particularly horrendous incident of domestic violence in St. Louis last month prompted one woman to launch an anti-domestic violence initiative.

Police report that last night the St. Louis County Police Department Jennings Detail responded to the 7000 block of Florence Place in Jennings just before 2 a.m. after children reported that their mother had been injured.

At that location, officers found Davis dead from a gunshot wound. Officers also noted that six children, all preteens, were inside the home at the time of the incident.

A county police spokesman tells Daily RFT that the suspect is the father of some of the children and the others are relatives. It's unknown at this time if any of them directly witnessed the homicide.

Some of them, the spokesman says, ran directly to the nearby police station to report the crime.

Police say that the 40-year-old male suspect, an ex-boyfriend, turned himself in around 5 a.m. at the St. Louis County Department of Justice Services in Clayton. The homicide is still under investigation, and, as of this writing, charges have not yet been issued but are expected later today.

Here's a Post-Dispatch video from the police station this morning.

And here's the full report from county police.
