Less than 24 hours after a woman was found strangled to death in an alleyway, St. Louis metro police say that another woman has been killed -- in a robbery last night that turned very violent.

39-year-old Glenda Jackson, a 55-year-old female and another male were victimized last night when five men robbed them at gun point on the 4300 block of Warne Avenue near College Hill, police say.

Jackson reportedly tried to retrieve the stolen property when one of the men shot her.

She is the 28th homicide victim in the city of St. Louis this year.

Jackson, who lived on John Avenue in College Hill, was shot in the chest and died a short while later at the hospital, police say.

Officers responded to a call for a shooting at around 10:30 p.m. and upon arrival, the 55-year-old woman told police that she and another male were robbed at gunpoint. Jackson had apparently tried to intervene and retrieve the items the men had stolen. That's when she was shot, police say.

The suspects allegedly fled on foot and are still at large.

The neighborhood has seen a rise in crime this year and the police department along with the mayor's office in February launched targeted anti-crime efforts in the area.
