Early Saturday morning, two police officers arrived at the apartment of Andrew Bush, 29, a south St. Louis county resident who opened the door and pointed an assault rifle at them.

That's the account of county police officials who say that the two cops -- now on administrative leave -- responded to the man's threat (after he chambered a round) and fatally shot him.

Police say that Bush had gotten into a dispute at KT's Bar and Grill on Telegraph Road earlier that night that ended with him stealing a woman's car.

Officers responded to a call of a stolen vehicle at the bar around 1 a.m. A female victim told police that the man, later identified as Bush, had approached her and her boyfriend in the parking lot. The two men allegedly got into some sort of fight that police say was interrupted by onlookers.

Bush, however, then jumped into the woman's car and drove off, officials say.

A quick investigation led cops to his residence at the Villa Apartments on the 4400 block of El Paulo Court where the stolen vehicle was sitting -- still running.

The officers knocked on Bush's apartment door and identified themselves as police.

It is at this point that Bush allegedly pulled out the assault rifle and threatened them, prompting the two cops to fire at him.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene and the officers were not injured, but they were placed on administrative leave, as is standard practice with an officer-involved shooting.

Here's the full report from county police.

An officer involved shooting occurred on Saturday, May 11, 2013 after a subject met two St. Louis County Police Department Officers at his apartment door with an assault rifle. The subject chambered a round into the rifle and quickly pointed it at the officers both of whom addressed the threat by shooting the subject. The subject was identified as: Andrew P. Bush w/m DOB 09/23/1983 4400 block of El Paulo Ct. St. Louis MO 63129

Officers from the St. Louis County Police Department South County Precinct responded shortly after 1 A.M. to 4500 Telegraph (KT's Bar and Grill) for a stolen vehicle just occurred. The female victim reported that the subject approached she and her boyfriend in the parking lot. The subject and boyfriend began to fight, which was quickly interrupted by onlookers, but the subject jumped into the car of the female and drove away. A quick investigation led officers to the address of the subject, located at 4400 block of El Paulo Ct (Villa Apartments), where the stolen vehicle was observed in front of his address still running. Two officers knocked on the suspect's door identifying themselves as police officers at which time the subject opened the door and threatened the officers with the assault rifle. The officers fired rounds from their duty weapons at the subject ending the threat.

The subject was pronounced dead at the scene. The officers were not injured, but were placed on administrative leave until a determination is made from the investigation of the incident. Any further information will be released at a later date if necessary.

It makes me sick to see how all of these people are so quick to judge someone they didn't know. I knew Andrew for many years. He was an amazing person! He was funny, caring, and more intelligent than many college educated people that i know. He may not have pretended to be fake to make a ton of friends. But if you were lucky enough for him to consider you a friend you had a loyal friend for life. I understand that people will pass judgment based on what they hear/read, but for you to throw your opinions around & bash a person that you don't know & who can't defend himself is asinine! There's no way this happened like they're saying. He just wouldn't have done anything like that. For everyones information he was a "decent law abiding citizen". Did he agree with every aspect of our laws? No....but who can honestly say that they do? Yes, his guns were all legal. And why is it any ones business why he had them? There are millions of people that have those types of guns & far larger quantities than he did yet none of you are sitting here condemning them. And the person that made the comment about suicide by police....that made me sick. He would never do that. He was a very private person & the last thing he would want would be exactly what is going on. He worked very hard to support himself & his child, he liked to have fun when he was home that's not a crime. To all the people that lost a dear friend/family member my heart goes out to you. And to all of you who are judging someone like you have any right to do so, i hope that some day the shoe is on the other foot & you know exactly how it feels. May you RIP Andrew. The world will be a sadder much less interesting place without you here.

First of all the comments from people who did not know Andrew on a personal level need to shut the hell up. The whole story is made up. When are you stupid Fing asshole going to learn that cops watch to many tv shows and can do whatever they damn well please and then make up any story to cover there punk asses. Andrew was a fun, loving person who always had your back. He worked very hard and was a great tattoo artist which I and many others proudly wear his art. As far as how he got his guns.... Well technically it isn't any of your business, do you ask the criminals were they get there guns. NO.... but so you know he was very talented and hand maid professional riffles and other types of weapons as a hobby. I get so sick of everybody thinking they know about someone and that they have the right to pass judgement upon the dead who cannot speak for themselves. Thank you Austn for your post and for anybodies information patrons at the bar said the car wasn't stolen a friend let him drive it home after being threatened by the woman's boyfriend. There are so many holes in the polices stories it could qualify as swiss cheese. May you rest in peace my dear friend. Now all the people who think they have the right to talk trash on a good man go F yourself.

Did anyone of you know him personally???? Probably not. I know him personally and don't believe he pointed that gun at the police. I believe that he had that gun ready and waiting for the boyfriend of the girl he was hitting on at the bar. I also don't understand why the crooked ass police felt the need to empty 2 magazines in to him. Really was not necessary at all. I'm sure he was dead after a couple of hits. They used extreme excessive force. Now its the word s of the police over someone who is now deceased. Would love to see how this investigation unfolds. I say the police officers need to take polygraphs to see how much of there story is true.

Once again, the anti-gun nuts confuse the lawful use of a firearm by law-abiding citizens with the actions of a criminal who would not follow their silly laws.

It does not matter what the gun was. It does however matter if the the guy passed a back ground check to get a gun. That is part of being a cop and they know this going into the field unfortunately this is the way it goes.

so when a cop points a gun at me I can legally kill him.

he probably just wanted to die. Ie. Suicide by police officer. alot happens in the streets because people are unable to do it themselves. So, they get someone else to do it for them.

Yes, the other option is to come and take it... Go ahead and see how that works out.

Assault rifle can do as much oe less damage than a 9 MM with a 30 plus round clip. People quit killing ach other. Turn to what ever you think created you.

I only assume you don't fight for any other causes because all I ever hear about is gun rights. No one gets this upset over hunger, poverty, child abuse, rape culture, gay rights, etc.

What part of assault are they not explaining? What type of gun?If I pointed a pellet rifle at someone it's not an assault rifle until I pull the trigger. If he had a knife, it would not be an assault until he stabbed someone. Definitions are too vague. It's all based on intent.

what part of "he pointed an assault rifle at them" are you not wanting to understand.

there is no mention of "how many" guns or bullets you can have in the constitution. you know why? because the founding fathers knew that 1 man with 10 bullets was no match for 100 invading soldiers with 100 bullets each.

LOL agree if you point it at them that's assult, and if you shoot them with it, it's a 'battery weapon' :)

"regular citizens" are covered by the 2nd amendment to own weapons. The federal law against full auto (machine guns) is the only stipulation. This clown would have gotten shot no matter what type of firearm he pointed. Stick to the facts and leave the capaigning to the crooks

YES!!! As long as criminals have those kinds of weapons, law abiding citizens should be able to have them as well.

Owning the gun didn't get him killed... POINTING IT AT A COP DID.... Of course this idiot didn't need ANY gun, also do we know how he obtained the gun, legally or not? He was obviously not a responsible non-violent citizen but the extreme majority of the 80+ million gun owners are. How judgmental of you, to blatantly assume we don't help other causes, BTW...

Keith Siatkowski

If a bad guy owns a gun and you don't, who automatically wins? I understand your sentiment, but law abiding citizens were guaranteed the right to defend themselves against bad guys who mean to do them harm. That is the law. It was written that way purposely by our founders for a myriad of reasons. The only way to change that law is to amend the Constitution. That has not been done. Therefore, good guys still have the right to own guns.

I'm going to be the only one here to say this but no, he did not need to have that gun. We are all lucky he aimed it at a cop rather than unload it on some innocent people. Look how many people don't get killed this way. Instead they insist that people need to die at their hands and go on a shooting spree. Is this really worth it? I think gun owners are more concerned with being right than the general safety of the public. Rights are not always necessities. Sure you have a "right" to a firearm but is it necessary to have dozens of dangerous weapons capable of wiping out hundreds of people? Do you think some 100-strong military group is going to rush your door? Are the terrorists coming for you personally? Be realistic. Yes you have a right to protect yourself and hunt for food but collecting military high grade weapons in the name of "rights" and "protection" is unnecessary. To me these gun right activists look like cowards. (And if we're so concerned about "rights" then why don't you fight for other oppressed people? We'll save that question for another day.) Owning a big bad gun does not make you any more safe. Case in point: this guy answered his door with his gun out and it got him killed. You're a real badass with your gun until someone shoots faster than you.

oh yeah, not to mention that this country wouldn't exist if they hadn't done what they did, so if you are going to complain...go to Britain with that other hooker Piers Morgan

So, when you say "regular" citizen, you obviously meant the bar fighting car thief was one of them.... Regular citizens do own these rifles & tend to not get into disputes at bars, steal cars, and proceed to allegedly aim rifles at police officers, who are only doing their job & want to go home at night, who respond to a call. I'm glad this idiot didn't shoot anyone and won't, ever.

It is all about personal "SPONSIBILITY"...you can not blame an inanimate object for some morons actions...just remember...if you voted for Obama the first time, oh well, you were hoping for some kind of positive change, but if you voted for him the second time...you deserve the bullshit he is putting us through...all I know is, he will never take my firearms away from me for I have the right to own them legally

We can't even provide our citizens with a decent, competitive education due to race to the bottom stuff like NCLB, let alone quality healthcare that everyone can afford including mental healthcare; we have lower social mobility than other developed nations, but people honestly want people to be able to own law enforcement and/or military grade weapons with extremely little oversight and then scream "PERSONAL 'SPONSIBILITY" when something goes wrong all because a piece of paper written by a bunch of slave owners 200+ years ago maybe possibly if read in the right way says so while they actively hate the other parts of the document such as the part about levying taxes, the interstate commerce clause, pretty much every amendment but the 2nd and 10th, etc. That shit is MURKA as fuck.

I do. I also believe that when you do something like aim it at police (or anyone when it isn't self defense) you get what's coming to you when they light you up.

What does it matter what the gun was? I'm pretty sure the outcome would have been the same if it were a 12 gauge shotgun or a 9mm handgun. Point a gun at a cop you're gonna get shot. Period.

@Theresa Solsten you statement makes a little seance however i have a rebuttal to that  at any time with Obama administration you really don't think they can come in take you away and you will never be seen agen or even a terrorist or a enemy of the country say N Korea wouldn't hesitate if they got the backing to invade our country YES They would.

90% of the gun owners in America not only are reasonable but they take safety course and many teach there kids how to use them and teach them gun safety. You can't blame gun owners for what a DRUNK you saw it he was intoxicated nut ball dose just like you can't blame Responsible Gun owners for criminals who can walk down the street of almost any city and buy a gun illegally.

No I am not a gun loving nut I do however be leave that there are times that guns do come in Handy heck lets even say a Zombie attack ever happened(yes I know it wouldn't but sense were talking theoretically ) would you rather have a broom or a gun with plenty of ammo. Lets go so fair as to say N Korea decided to invade this country in your small down or city would you throw up your hands and surrender or would you say HELL NO I am fighting to the end,I swore an Oath to this country and i would fight to the end(Served in the US Navy) so before you think its ok for gun owners to lose there rights thing about all the stuff in this day and age could happen. Heck 9/11 no one thought could ever happen but it did. Pearl Harbor there are many other times.
