A worker died inside the north St. Louis Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company plant on Friday evening, after he reportedly became trapped inside a packing machine, officials say.

The victim, who police identified over the weekend, is 42-year-old Mensud DJelmo, who lived on Burnett Walk in south St. Louis county.

By the time a second employee arrived on the scene and called an ambulance, it was too late.

The victim was apparently discovered late in the evening.

Police have few details about the accident so far and company officials with Pepsi did not respond to Daily RFT's request for comment over the weekend.

The accident took place at the plant located at Union 70 Center Drive in north St. Louis.

Police say that the employee who discovered DJelmo was returning from a break at around 9 p.m. and observed the victim trapped inside a "packing unit machine."

Cops showed up soon after, but DJelmo was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to a firm that apparently worked on this 257,000-square-foot facility, the site features technologically advanced production and bottling equipment, which includes "high-speed can and bottle filling machinery, intricate bulk raw material, finished goods conveyor handling systems, and state-of-the-art line and process controls."
