On Monday, just after midnight, Mon Rai, a refugee immigrant from Bhutan, was shot and killed in a 7-Eleven, leaving behind a pregnant wife and an eight-year-old son. Less than twelve hours later, a 34-year-old man was shot to death in Carondelet in an alleged drug sale that turned violent.

Then last night, a total of eight different incidents of violence erupted -- apparently leaving eighteen people injured across the city. It appears at this time that the incidents were unrelated, but, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department's daily crime report, they all occurred within a few hours of each other.

All but one of the incidents last night involved gunfire and -- miraculously, it seems -- there were no fatalities. The full summaries are below.

In one incident last night with many victims, police responded to a call for a shooting at the 4700 block of Highland Avenue in the Kingsway East neighborhood at around 10:30 p.m. Two cars allegedly pulled up and one suspect fired at five different people. A 30-year-old woman was hit, along with a fifteen-year-old girl, and three boys, ages thirteen, fourteen and seventeen.

All five went to the hospital in serious, but stable condition.

"This is an ongoing dispute between two families," SLMPD says.

At around the same time, three individuals allegedly smoking marijuana inside a car were hit by bullets. The unknown suspects fired shots and then chased after them when they tried to escape. These three victims were also taken to the hospital in serious, but stable condition.

In one incident with a large number of victims, on the 1900 block of Warren Street in the St. Louis Place neighborhood, five people between the ages of eighteen and 21, were hit by gunfire just after 1 a.m., police say.

Two sisters and their friends were reportedly walking out of a residence when a gunman -- described as a black male with a full beard and short fade hair style -- began shooting.

Police say, "They all ran into her apartment when the gunman kicked open the door and continued shooting. The victims were conveyed to area hospitals for treatment."

This shooting may be connected to an earlier shooting on Warren Street in which three unknown males fired multiple shots at another male, but no one was injured, police say.

The five victims in this 1 a.m. incident suffered various wounds to their knees, shoulders, hands and back and are all in stable condition.

Another victim last night was shot while playing basketball; one male shot another male "as a result of an ongoing personal dispute" in a separate incident. And in another shooting, a young male tried to rob a 41-year-old male and shot him in the leg.

And finally, in the incident that seems to have caused the most critical injuries, a 21-year-old was stabbed at the 4200 block of South 38th Street and was taken to the hospital in unstable condition.

Referring to the suspect, a 34-year-old male, SLMPD says, "His wife reported that he left home with a butcher knife and returned with blood on his clothing."

Here are the department's tweets on the violence, which indicate that the incidents are isolated and not random. SLMPD also plans to increase patrols and undercover cops in response:
