KSDK (Channel 5) has an in-depth segment today, investigating these "quirky" new members of a species called "hipsters" who are taking over St. Louis. They're in bars. They lurk in coffee shops. They dance during the daytime. They wear sunglasses. They're into jazz. And fashion. And they're young!

The station's "St. Louis hipster culture" segment this morning is one, in all seriousness, you don't want to miss, folks.

Seriously, do yourself the favor and watch the video RIGHT NOW.

Here's the video.

Let's dissect this a bit, shall we?

What is a so-called "hipster" anyway, Channel 5?!

Let's start where all journalists start when they have an important question to explore: the dictionary:

OK, now that we've gotten that out of the way. Let's dive right in. Let's go where the hipster people go.

To a bar! In the middle of the day!!!

Sooooo quirky.

But wait, is this a St. Louis-specific species? Nope! They're in Chicago, New York and really any metropolitan area in the country. That is, according to this "hipster" expert:

And where do they congregate??!

EVERYWHERE.

At record shops selling music not currently on the Billboard charts:

On Cherokee Street:

They're on "every corner."

What does being hipster really mean, though?

There's a "vibe." It's your "demeanor." Your "attitude." And, duh, your fashion. Like these sunglasses:

It's also a thing you can check on a box on Yelp:

Hipsters reject popular culture, the station says. But wait -- what about these celebs? Surely they fit the Webster's Dictionary definition?

BRAIN. EXPLODING.

So KSDK is dumb because they're reporting on something old.... and this report is actually from a year ago. Oh, I get it. You're being ironic. Like a Hipster!

We are officially in the 'wringing out' phase of old people talking about young people and their insecurities disguised as irony. There's good music and books we could be getting into.

it not only thrives with fashion & outlook. BUT, many of them are independent entrepreneurs. it would be worth your stations time to stop by the SLOUP monthly meeting on the the last sunday of every month.

This is like mom jeans journalism: kind of embarrassing and unintentionally funny. Also: "The dictionary defines..." Really? How're you gonna end that segment? "Not only are they all hipsters; they're also friends." High five, KSDK middle school yearbook story!

all these negative comments suck, you people don't have what it takes to be a hipster. Have fun in the county with your garden parties. Lamesters

Is this a joke? Isn't there absolutely anything else you could be reporting on? Like, for example, something news-worthy?

I own a coffee shop on Cherokee Street which makes me a "hipster" expert by default. Aaaaaand, I got that sweet shirt and androgynous haircut in Brooklyn! Ma'an...I am awesome! Check the box, friends...hipster to death. So, come on down to the Mud House and listen to some Jazz. Hipsters like Jazz.

Hipsters celebrate their uniqueness by dressing like other hipsters! Also, they failed to point out the subspecies of "ironic hipster", who can be identified by the can of bad beer in their hand, preferably PBR.

Oh, man. If only, somehow, Larry Conners could have been involved. Now that I think of it, he may consider himself a 'hipster' and be profiled?
