The will soon be crying for more money just to keep it open in a few years. Now That's Funny.

What a waste of tax payers money for a seasonal building with seasonal Jobs lol

So, this space should remain a dirt pile until someone builds on it? Use it for parking. There is no reason not to. The fact that people (including this news site) want to make this an issue is ridiculous. Some people just want to be angry.

They meant "parking" district. The "shopping" part was a grammatical error caused by auto correct.

THIS is why I "NEVER" vote "FOR" these so called improvements in our city. I voted against the arch and the dome improvements as well. Don't be fooled by their asking for money, they do whatever they want once they get it, it's a gamble, sometimes it's good, other times a complete jOkE!

Would you all rather the area remain a muddy hole until they are ready to build the next phase? Construction has begun... might as well get some additional revenue until phase two.

There is a very simple thing, people can do to remedy this. They can boycott cardinals until they finish what they promised!

That's how they kill St. Louis. :( This could of been a beautiful city.

It could be fun... Now there is a good place to tailgate before the game.

I think the concern is the parking garages on the far part of the photo. Also, this photo was taken from the parking garages on the west side of Ball Park village

Why is nobody upset about all this? Why has no one questioned why it has taken them 5 years to break ground? You know why? Because the public never learns. They continue to get duped by business and government leaders. Once again the rich get richer at the expense of taxpayers and are not held accountable for their actions (or lack of actions). In case everyone needs a reminder check out this timeline of how things happened: http://badcentury.blogspot.com/2008/03/what-happened-to-ballpark-village.html

Exactly while probably other people are getting their pockets lined.

Because it's not a shopping district. It's 400 parking spots for a fake honky bar and a Cardinals bar. Lame.

Who's the shit-hawk who's fault is it this ended up so fucked? You're a dicktree.

So the taxpayers help pay for a parking lot. Then have to pay $20 to park there. That worked out well.

I saw it overhear from 360 this past wknd and couldn't believe it. The building is tiny -- I thought it was going to be like the P&L in KC -- what a joke!

The window bashing begins in earnest now, 20 bucks to park and be smashed, no thanks, Ill take Metrolink and save my car

At the rate construction actually gets FINISHED in Missouri...we'll never see this. My great-grandchildren could possibly contact me through a Medium and tell me of it's splendor once I've been rotting in the ground for two generations.

What's the debate? Why shouldn't a shopping district have a parking lot? The buildings are going up. They need some parking spots. Chill.

I have a bad feeling those parking lots will still be there in 20 years

it looks more like ballpark parking...where is the village at?

Straight bullshit from people who never ever keep their word.

It's about time. I needed an open air place to park my car when I go to games. I was getting pretty sick and tired of cleaning up the broken glass from my cars windows in stuffy garages.

This is a joke. How embarrassing to be a St. Louisan and Cardinals fan. Do better red birds!

sorry man... wasn't trying to call you out... and i too wish there wasn't going to be a massive lot of asphalt sitting right down there either.

The alternative to what? I'm simply pointing out that they've reneged on "plans" before so simply believing they're going to do something because they "plan" to seems rather foolish at this point. For whatever it's worth, I'm not angry, just disappointed. And there isn't anything random about it.

Jim Schulman
Jim Schulman

what's the alternative? get randomly angry at something over which i have no control? things always take more time than they should, and an economic downturn always means less investment capitol. just b/c we think "they all have tons of money they should just do it" doesn't make it a sound business decision... and making (generally) sound business decisions is how most of these people got a lot of money to begin with...

Robert A. West
Robert A. West

They've already reneged on multiple other "plans" for this land in the past; I'm not sure why they deserve anyone's benefit at this point honestly.

Jim Schulman
Jim Schulman

I hope that's not the case... i'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt at this point....

Robert A. West
Robert A. West

I think the 'plan' is nothing but lip service. I suspect the profit margins for parking lots, which cost almost nothing monthly to maintain, will be too great to justify any further development. Shameful

Nick Scydick

Wow... how disappointing... I wonder how much tax money I spent on this... America is a joke...

Jim Schulman
Jim Schulman

it even says "surface parking/future development" so i think the plan is to continue developing the area, but why miss out on revenue in the meantime?

Angelo Olegna
Angelo Olegna

We need a special punitive tax on surface-level parking.
