Tuffy Gessling The Clown Gets Support From Texas Rep., Glenn Beck, Many Online Fans

Tuffy Gessling, the rodeo clown at the center of the Missouri State Fair controversy, has developed a large online following, as we noted earlier this week. Turns out, his celebrity was only just beginning and has since skyrocketed -- in the last few days earning him praise from high-profile pundits and politicians across the country.

In addition to his massive following of supporters on Facebook -- on his own personal pages and on a fast-growing "Support Tuffy Gessling, Professional Rodeo Entertainer" fan page -- Gessling has gotten love from a congressman in Texas and, unsurprisingly, Glenn Beck.

At the very least, his celebrity showcases how quickly a local story can spread -- and how the controversy at the Missouri State Fair is one that gets folks on both sides of the issue very riled up. The NAACP, for example, is calling for multiple federal investigations.

Gessling is, of course, the rodeo clown who put on an Obama mask on Saturday night and did a short skit in which there was talk of a bull running down the President -- which many in the crowd reportedly enjoyed. One attendee, however, was outraged, and blew the lid on the story Sunday with photos, videos and testimony of the performance which he argued was clearly racist, offensive and inappropriate for a taxpayer-funded event.

Since the story went viral, the announcer during the skit -- who argues he did not make the controversial statements in question -- has resigned as president of the Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association. And Gessling has been banned from performing at the State Fair forever.

The controversy, however, seems to be working out pretty well for him.

Here's Glenn Beck on Gessling.

"It's a rodeo clown. Let me say it again: It's a rodeo clown at a state fair. Now here's how you react to a rodeo clown at a state fair. He's a rodeo clown at a state fair!" Beck says, before doing his impression of the elite left. "It's a rodeo clown wearing a mask."

"Look at what is happening to the rodeo clown," he says, adding that people who attend state fairs are "clear-thinking, commonsense farmers, cowboys, straight-ahead Americans. That's who is going!"

Meanwhile, Congressman Steve Stockman, a Republican from Texas, has gone out of his way to defend Gessling -- and even invited him to come perform in his state.

Some samplings from his official Facebook page.

And the Support Tuffy Gessling page, which claims to be run by a fan who has the clown's blessing and has been in contact with him, now has, as of this writing, a whopping 68,899 likes -- and is growing each minute.

This is in addition to a Support Tuffy Gessling White House petition page, which was created by a Texas resident and has more than 1,000 signatures.

The Facebook page has a range of posts, some arguing that the outcry against this clown is hypocritical. For example:

And now there's Tuffy merchandise:

Maybe Tuffy the clown should run for office!

OR PRESIDENT:

Gessling has generally been quiet (and has not responded to Daily RFT's requests for comments).

He has offered short apologies, but most recently, on his performer page, thanked supporters... and showed them how much his web traffic has increased!

SENATOR OBAMA WON SCHOLARSHIPS TO AMERICA’S TOP ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS, was voted by his peers to be editor of the Harvard Law Review, is a family man with an exemplary and obviously loving marriage, has a wife who is a loving brilliant charismatic woman, two lovely children, is a born-again Christian comfortable with his faith, has avoided making the fast buck in the new gilded age of greed when he could have, served his community, is thoughtful, considered in his opinions, slow to anger, proved right in his judgment about the Iraq war, the economy and just about everything else, looks at every side of a question before making a decision, and is not given to grandstanding let alone defending himself. THAT IS WHO I VOTED FOR TWICE. THAT IS WHO THE PRESIDENT STILL IS.’

nah, more like the 2nd one since they bashed on Bush for 8 years but throw a hissy fit in the granola aisle when someone chides Obama.

That's actually a perfect example for double standard, Debbie. Thank you.

That's one in a million. Kanye is really feeling the backlash for his "Bush doesn't care about black people" comment too, huh? (Plus, pretty sure I saw the Dixie Chicks gainfully employed when they opened for the Eagles a couple years back, not banned for life from plying their trade)

Derek, you mean the same nsa acts that bush started? and that the repubs claimed and convinced America we needed to do? hmm

this wasn't making fun of...and it wasn't about the mask as much as it was about encouraging and inciting a crowd to cheer for harm to come to the president look alike...thus the president.....its one think to wear a mask caricature, but to encourage people to be gleeful about harm is something else entirely....

seeing racism in something doesn't make one racist....cripes...learn what the term means before you speak out about it......people who see it in everything, which is rare, are people of a victim mentality...many issues are racist, they aren't "ust seen in it". many such as yourself fail to see the subtle racism that still occurs because you want to believe that all is ok now since America has a black president.......bias and racism exists across all groups......its not gone....its not overt like it use to be...why? because of laws passed saying you cant.....and how were they passed? people identified the problem, spoke out until change happened.....so speaking out and identifying a problem doesn't make one racist, it makes one a factor of change.

Debbie Lass
Debbie Lass

exactly Lynda....but see, the people who fail to understand why this was an issue to some...also im sure fail to understand why the trayvon martin case was an issue when they post cases of white people killed by black people....they don't get it....and this closed mindedness is what the problem is with our country from progressing where we need to be.

max the Dixie chicks got reamed for their comments about bush so sorry, your "double standard argument doesn't apply...

Benghazi debunked but whatever. IRS debunked but whatever. Lets see your blogs about the consolates/embassies attacked under war criminal Bush Craig. Get out of the faux ooze bubble there guy...

Christine, 2014s right around the corner. Nate Silvers predictions are not good for us, on top of attempting to circumvent democracy w/ frivolous voter purge laws, are the only way they can/will ever win another election at the executive level. We've got to figure out how to get a reasonable Congress, and do away with these petty repugnantCONS. They're attempting to punish the country for electing the black guy, over the 1%er. They must be pushed back under the rock from where they crept.

Craig Hendrickson
Craig Hendrickson

The low information voters are the ones believing everything Obama says. It only works when they also have a short memory. How many things has Obama taken both sides on so far? Benghazi and the IRS needed to be completely investigated until they were only "phony scandals". The health care plan was put into law by all Democrat House, Senate, and Obama until Obama decided which parts should go into effect and which shouldn't, which is actually illegal. He disobeying the law he signed into law. What more do you morons need?

JJ, of course you would have been against anyone making fun of G W Bush because you have principles, right?

Craig Hendrickson

Of course the RFT wrote an article about the Bush clown in '94 and the state went after him, too, after he lost his job, of course. ??? I'd like to see both articles together.

Max Schulze
Max Schulze

And clearly missing the entire point of the article. It's not about what you feel about either President, its about the double standard that has been applied to anyone who wishes to criticize.

Max Schulze

Someone give Jay a pacifier. He always throws a hissy fit right before nap time...

Max Schulze

With all due respect, you're a fucking moron. I didn't say anything about Obama or Bush's job performance. I simply stated the FACT that harsh, personal criticism of Bush was widely spewed and that was accepted and promoted by the main stream media, while far less harsh comments are made about Obama and its suddenly a federal case. I stand by what I said...if you don't recgonize that, you are lying to yourself, regardless of how you feel about either POTUS. However, since you say Obama "saved" us, you clearly have no problem lying to yourself.

Thom Jones

Who the hell cares what mask a rodeo clown wears? The Right tried for five years to prevent Barack Obama from becoming president, and they failed--twice. Their lies about his nationality, their lies about his economic philosophy--neither were powerful enough to prevent his election nor Re-election. So whatever your opinion , respect the man for running two successful national campaigns.

The Black community have fought for years against city and state government cutbacks to law enforcement for poorer black and hispanic neighborhoods, but never any cuts for wealthier neighborhoods policing. waste management, schools, street and road repair services ... so what gives?

The Rodeo Clown wearing a Bush mask in 1994 did not have a broomstick stuck up his ass. Just one disgusting difference you failed to take notice of

If you're info is garnered soley from Faux Ooze, truly you need to just shut the fuck up. It's proven that Rupert and the Saudi Prince, whose ideals you're ready to swallow as your own, are plainly unAmerican, you're misinformed (that means lied to), and scientifically proven, just not that smart (meaning you have low IQs,) and are downright low brow. The only way you could win any further elections is to negate voters, not stopping voter fraud, which has been proven to be a problem. The issue with that is, it's been conservatives committing it, fact. Your gerrymandering efforts make that crystal clear. Could anyone imagine a world where the fright reich wing is long gone? Lets move to Dems and Green, get this country moved forward. 2014, vote, don't be a Kochsucker, apparently they have enough supporters, and all of them are vehemently unAmerican...

JJ O'Brand

Obamas policies can be mocked all day, what policy in particular was being mocked here? None, his ethnicity was the only mocking point in this charade of dissent. Period James.

Ray Thomas

every time you turn around someone wants to yell racism..what a joke grow up people

James Madison
James Madison

Perhaps a rise in historical ignorance, considering that at least from John Adams on, presidents were openly and public mocked, even burned in effigy. Yet today, that is totally unacceptable form of free speech.

James Madison
James Madison

Making fun of the president, even burning in effigy, has been an American tradition since John Adams. Those that say Obama cannot be mocked are the true racists. They do not see Obama as just the president, but rather they see him as a "black president." The stunts (both of them) might have been in poor taste, but so are a lot of things in America today.
