State Senator Brian Nieves.
State Senator Brian Nieves has come up with a new way to express his unconditional love of guns. Nieves, a proud backer of "the most Hard Core 2nd Amendment Bill" -- which Missouri Republicans will try and pass tomorrow -- is now advertising a gun-themed fundraiser that includes some sort of assault rifle raffle and an opportunity to be a "Sniper Level Sponsor."

Nieves, who represents parts of Franklin and St. Louis counties, does not shy away from controversial and potentially offensive Facebook posts and is this week emphasizing his appreciation of firearms with some bizarre offers.

There are evidently all sorts of different sponsorship options, including the "$1,500 Sniper Level Sponsor," which gets folks: "Four Shooter Packages, Six Station Sponsorships and SIX of only Fifty Chances ($100 each) at the Sig Sauer 516 PatrolAR15! (Sniper Package is a $1,900 Value!"

P.S. - If you are an actual Constituent of the 26th District OR a True Blue Lover of our 2nd Amendment... You "May" be eligible for special pricing!!

P.P.S.S. - Somebody will be going home from this even with a Brand New Sig Sauer 516 Patrol!! Look it up folks - It's a Top of the line AR!!

The gun up for grabs looks something like this:

Some critics in Missouri found the event invite, especially the "sniper" label, a bit...off putting:

It also earned him some Huffington Post scrutiny yesterday.

Nieves, in his typical fashion, doesn't know why everyone is so OBSESSED with him:

The state senator has been a (literally) very loud proponent of gun rights and is currently most concerned about the "people who don't believe in hunting" trying to "figuratively mount [his] head on their wall."

His latest rant relates to House Bill 436 (the Second Amendment Preservation Act, which you can read about it in our earlier coverage here):

Nieves did not respond to a request for comment from Daily RFT yesterday.

Or someone who wants to get an AR can take their $1k, buy a CMMG (made here in MO) for $850 and still have $150 left for ammo and range fees.  Big whup.

Regardless of RFT's position, the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is not a bastion of the Right.  There are plenty of us 'lefties' who believe that the rifle on the wall of the laborer's flat is the sign that Democracy still lives.

Why does the Missouri GOP continue to make us look like a state of idiots? Using the word "sniper" is offensive because we usually associate a sniper as someone who kills other people. We don't normally associate it with hunting. This on the heels of another GOP moron comparing Jay Nixon with Hitler and that on the heels of yet another GOP moron accusing Nixon of using Soviet style tactics. Our Republican party has entered a whole other level of ridiculousness. It's a shame these idiots got control of our party!

What if a sore clerk used that "assault rifle" to stop an armed robbery and it was caught on film? You'd probably put it on your website and it would get a million his because it would be awesome, just like the video you posted last week.

why do anti-gun people always go straight for profanities, name calling and GWB comments? for the record, BHO has continued a lot of Bush Doctrine. And for the record, I wasn't a fan of GWB either, nice try.

I find it stupid but it's his right to do so.

An AR15 isn't an assault weapon.
