St. Louis Cardinals 2013 Yearbook: Stan Musial Through the Years (Excerpts, Photos)
From the yearbook:
Overcoming an early season slump that resulted from his deliberate attempt to swing for the long ball, Musial found his form and still wound up with 36 home runs. He hit 18 homers after Aug. 1, including this inside-the-park shot against the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Aug. 15.
Punctuated by newspaper graphics of the era, Musial slides safely under the tag of Philadelphia shortstop Granny Hamner, but the Phillies ultimately overtook the Cardinals and the rest of the NL field in 1950, winning their first pennant since 1915.
With his father challenging Rogers Hornsby's club-record hitting streak, 9-year-old Dickie Musial watches Stan suit up before a late-July game at Sportsman's Park.
