VIDEO: Jon Stewart Calls Out Missouri's Denial Of Medicaid Expansion, "Total Dickishness"

The Daily Show With Jon Stewart
The Daily Show's Jon Stewart took a few cracks at Missouri on last night's episode, calling out state along with 25 others for refusing federal money that would completely cover the cost of expanding Medicaid for the next three years.

All 26 states have either GOP governors or Republican-controlled legislatures. They're all guilty of "total dickishness," as Stewart put it.

Stewart had some more choice words for Missouri State Senator John Lamping, who was shown in a clip saying that Missouri couldn't expand its Medicaid program since "we can barely afford to be in the Medicaid program as it exists today."

Stewart brought the hammer down down on Lamping's argument. "Boy, that is a tough choice," he said. "Should we, as a state, accept 100 percent this program's expansion costs from the federal government for the first three years? Or, I don't know, fuck it?"

Go ahead and tell us where I am 'wrong' Jim. Your words mean little without facts and examples. Niel, who created the flawed programs in question? Human nature is the worm in the apple of such programs. So it matters little who did what. But spewing vitriol is the tactic of a weak argument. I don't believe everything I am told, btw.

Since we are forced to buy Obamacare, then Missouri should expand medicaid, it will help those who work, don't have insurance and can't afford the high premiums , that don't qualify for subsidies many are middle income families or individuals that meet middle income guidelines. Get off your butts Missouri and do something to help people in Missouri!.

John Stewart once again points out the facts.  Its truly sad that Missouri refuses to take care of its people because the extremist GOP think its communism or something.  We could all have health care more like the rest of the civilized world, but instead we slip farther and farther down.  Our life expectancy is around 34th and dropping, people have to decide if they want to treat their illness and go bankrupt or suffer and be able to keep their home.  Yeah, thats a great system GOP.  They do have a plan though..if you get sick, die quickly.

Texas didn't expand Medicaid either. You can only earn $200 per month as an adult to qualify. Although, you can get emergency medicaid if you are pregnant. Makes sense to me since pregnancy is totally avoidable. This is why so many poor people have like 12 kids I guess.

Sarah Stum
Sarah Stum

You should see how bad it is in TX. You can only earn $200 to qualify for medicaid. MO is not the worst state by far.

Sarah Stum
Sarah Stum

No, Texas is actually the worst medicaid state. The income limit is $200 to qualify. So you basically have to live under a bridge or be pregnant with your 8th baby.

Well, Jim Phillips, it showed you replied.... However, I guess you deleted whatever you posted.... Feel free... Try again.

Be a man, Jim. Admit you're wrong, or bring a valid argument to the table.... I'll check back this evening... I expect little.

Casey McBroom
Casey McBroom

But, I guess you people only believe in forcing EVERYONE to pay into your pyramid scheme, and only allow those who agree with it to get anything back... That's a whole other level of evil you're insinuating... Think much???? I'm guessing not.

Casey McBroom
Casey McBroom

Jim Phillips, you're another fool who wants to pick the pockets of someone protesting it, and then expect they receive none of the benefits associated with said theft. Do you people live in fantasy land 24/7? She had a right to social security, she damn well paid into your pyramid scheme (via gov't force), yet you think she compromised... You don't understand cause and effect... Oblivious much?

Jim Phillips

Casey McBroom, what in the name of Ayn Rand are you talking about? Your goddess turned out to be a "moocher" as you call it.

Casey McBroom
Casey McBroom

Remember what states did NOT vote for your welfare state, before you get mad about them wanting those state who voted for it, paying for it. Duh... You people and your pickpocket logic.

Casey McBroom
Casey McBroom

Danny Isbell, learning is fun... You should try it. You must consider more then just "the biggest takers are". Also, if you altruists want a welfare state, shouldn't you altruists at the fed be the one paying the bill for programs red states voted against??? Logic anyone? There is a ton you're not considering (the ethical right being the primary one), but I expect little from the bleeding hearts of the world. You want forced altruism, then you pay for it. State like Texas have no state income tax, yet you want them paying for your beloved welfare state... F that! You mushy libs can pay for your system, and get crushed under it. But, it'll have to wait until this evening... I got work I must do (gotta keep the losers of the world comfortable)...

You are so correct Danny. They do not understand a thing about government, and don't care, and they are fronting for the ALEC.

Interesting that there is absolutely no way to contact Senator Lamping - not through his facebook page OR his MO Senate website. He really cares about his constituents.

All federal government get there money FROM US, Stupid Fucks. And We are broke

Sandy Dickenson

Also Ronnie, the reason it is is high is because the REPUBLICANS MADE IT HIGH by restricting everything. Why is it that in Democrat controlled states that set up their own State Exchanges have LOW premiums and LOW deductibles while Republican controlled states have HIGH premiums and HIGH deductibles? It's because the republican controlled legislatures are doing their damnedest to try and make it fail. Republicans don't care about the people they just hate this president with a passion and don't want anything he does to succeed and they will tank this country to make it happen. Hell Obamacare (ACA) was a REPUBLICAN IDEA BACK IN THE 1990's!!!!

Sandy Dickenson
Sandy Dickenson

Ronnie, most of those Missourians were in RURAL areas and they are not that damned smart. They would vote for any dumb ass thing as long as the Repub;ican Party or some religious figure told them to do it. Brains isn't an asset in the rural areas of this state.

I love hearing that so many pro-moochers in Missouri would like leaving... Please do. I don't know what makes you people think health care is a right, but you're very mistaken... The amount of evil involved in your scheme is not immediately obvious for everyone... Let me help... In no particular order... -You enslave man to other men by taxing him to pay for a healthcare system with threat of force if he doesn't comply. -You enslave private insurance providers by forcing them to compete with a force based system, and make it worse by allowing facism/corporatism into the realm by giving an incentive to employer's (tax credits) who provide insurance to employees (further hurting the free market insurance system)... Nevermind all the regulations... Geez.. -Lastly, you enslave some of the greatest among us: The doctors. By what stinkin' right do you set the price a doctor can charge, who he does and doesn't have to treat, and how he/she can or can't practice? BY WHAT MORAL RIGHT DO YOU ENSLAVE SOME OF THE BEST AMONG US??? You mooching altruists time has come... And, you're all getting EXACTLY what you deserve. The NO of your victims is all that is needed to destroy your entire system... It's time we who take pride in freedom and its economic system of capitalism start saying it more loudly, and with far more moral certainty.... NO! You do NOT have the right to enslave your fellow man! Health care like so many things is not a freakin' right.

Well one of the problems is people being on all the state funded programs who do not need it!!!!! They can go out and work just like the rest of us!!!!!!!  Why do people that work hard to pay their bills and try to have money for food and the neccesities to get by get punished???? When you can lay on your back and keep having babies and draw a check and food stamps and Medicaid!!!!!! Hell we should all just quit work and sign up for assistance,,,, they live better than people who work for a living!!! The whole system makes me sick! What happened to drug testing people on welfare?????? Guarantee more than half would not pass a drug test!!!! Pisses me me off that mytaxes are paying for them to live better than me!!!!! And I can not afford health care!!!!!

I live in rural Missouri. If I lived in Kansas City or St. Louis, I would want them to leave the state of Missouri, and then I would move to one of these cities. Missouri totally sucks.

Missouri sucks. No health care, no jobs, nothing to do and worst of all there is more violent crime and poverty than you can shake a stick at. Well I guess that's what you get for electing nothing but and bunch of right wing lunatics. Hell even the democrats in Missouri are nothing more than moderate republicans.

Neil Aimaro

You call the left suicidal just as the right wing hits the self destruct button over the debt ceiling hahahaha social security, medicare and medicaid are on the brink of collapse and if they did fail the blame wold be on the hands of republicans not democrats.
