The Circuit Attorney's office charged two St. Louis men Thursday in the apparently random shooting death of John Paulsen, a director at the Chase Park Plaza Hotel who was shot and killed inside his convertible.

Lorenzo Milton, 22, is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree attempted robbery and two counts of armed criminal action. Milton, of the 4200 block of Meramec Street, is being held in jail without bail.

Police also charged Ronald Milton, 29, with unlawful use of a weapon and tampering with a witness in a felony prosecution. He was jailed in lieu of a $30,000 cash bond.

Paulsen was parked on the 4200 block of Neosho Street in the Bevo neighborhood of south St. Louis at around 3:30 a.m. on July 21 when he was fatally shot in the arm and chest.

Paulsen's family says he was on his way home from working at a wedding when he stopped to put up the top of his convertible.

Paulsen, the 57th homicide victim in the city of St. Louis this year, lived on the 900 block of Dover Place in the Carondelet neighborhood nearby the shooting.

"It's just the wrong place, wrong time," Judy Bateman, a close family friend, told the Daily RFT.

Paulsen was born in Kansas City, Kansas, on July 5, 1965, and was adopted nine months later by James and Janet Paulsen. He grew up and went to school in Goodland, Kansas, and graduated in 1983, a member of the National Honor Society. He went on to attend Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, and then studied performing arts at Northwestern in Chicago before eventually moving to St. Louis.

I'm so sorry to the Paulsen Family for their lost, any death to me is really unjust, but when you have two people wrongly accused for the crime is sick to me. I believe the Detective rushed to judgement on this one, and listened to the wrong money hungry person of this world.

First and foremost, my condolences to the John Paulsen family.  I do not condone senseless killinG of another human being.  Secondly, since the St louis police were no percipient witness to the shooting, nor any witnesses were present at the crime scene, the two black men charged deserve a fair trial.  A cheeseburger can get indicted. Black men are racially profiled (Trayvon Martin) and get railroaded by the shoddy investigations of Law Enforcement. These two men deserve a fair hearing, afterall, it is the American way.  Anything short of justice is a mistrust. Plain and simple.

How you Gonna win when you ain't riGht within?  A cheeseburGer can Get indicted.  The police were no percipient witness to the crime.  So, for all we know, two innocent black men are beinG held in contempt prior to investiGation.  AlthouGh, I feel for the untimely death of Mr. John Paulsen, one cannot rush to judGement. Black men Get racially profiled and railroaded into America's beartrap quite frequently in this racist system of ours.

"apparently random shooting death of John Paulsen" Nothing random about it. He's in a predominantly black neighborhood that has racism against white people. He's dead because of it. Unfortunately, for every one of us (no matter our race), being politically correct trumps calling it what it is. Hey, look on the plus side... These nobody losers just went from killing and stealing to stealing and chillin' on our dime. We'll all pay 20-30 thousand a year per inmate, so these scumbag's can be jailed with 3 square, T.V., a library, a gym, etc... We'll show them... And, then we wonder why nothing gets better.

@69locaroja You are racist.  John was a truly good person no matter what his skin color.  What you've written can easily be read as a threat.  Be careful what you say.  You get a FREE education in this country, and yet you throw it away by choosing to wait for help from white people making ways to "advance your people."  Barack Obama didn't wait.  He did something worthwhile with his life.  What's your excuse?  What is the excuse of the useless pile of waste that gunned down this man?  John would have given the shirt off his back to help others, and often did.
