This is sad, seriously. Some woman cant have babys, and from the moment of conception, he or she is a human, God creates this miracle, some of you should think of that. Once your pregnant, it is no longer just your body, it is that childs life source.

A few years ago, I had been date-raped and was been pressured, bribed, and threatened by the father to get an abortion. I didn't think I could and kinda wanted to parent the little one growing in me, but promised I would fully research all options including abortion so that I could make the most informed and best decision for me. I had the option of going to IL and having an abortion that day or going to the clinic here in MO to go through their preliminary consoling and having to wait the current 24 hour waiting period. That waiting period was a blessing to me as it allowed me time away from the father to come to my own choice rather then doing something that I would regret just because some guy was controling me and my choices. So basically, I do think that our current waiting period is a nessecity however, I'm not sure what good adding more time to that period would do.

It's funny how most people that are provide will ride straight pass a homeless child and not bat an eye. It is also funny how they are the same people crying about people of government assistance. People just need to mind their own business. I did have an abortion. I am 26 with four children with a I guess decent job. I don't have below from the government so why would the government be allowed to make me wait for an abortion. I had to take two days off work just for the procedure. Then they give you a bunch of pamphlet most of which are lies. It is ridiculous. It already took me a week to think about what I was going to do. Then I had to walk through a bunch of people calling some of the worst names. Luckily the police were there because we probably would have faught. I thought my decision through well before I arrive for my first appointment. All making me come back do was make me have to miss work again, pay for someone to watch my kids again and spend majority of my time in a clinic again. This law is stupid. If you want to wait because you think you are incapable of making a decision then you do that. I thought about my decision and my head was clear. I knew what I had to do.

It is a personal choice NOT the governments. STAY OUT OF PEOPLES LIVES!

No RFT, Missouri does not want women to wait 72 hours, one lone State Rep, Keith Frederick, a man, wants women to wait 72 hours.....

Jennifer McMillan

the unfortunate truth is that the abortion clinic make women wait 6 weeks before they perform one.

Missouri is trying to pass laws based on religion again.

I don't think anyone cares about what you do to your own body. It's the baby's body that Richard is worried about. Killing a baby is murder, even if it's legal.

The idea of the gov mandating what I can/can't do w my body makes me so fucking angry!!! Kudos to Dina van der Zalm for making a stand!! Thank you for all your efforts!

I think the point that is missing is "why wait 72 hours?" what is the point, besides creating a burden. To give "more time to think" about what? What other procedures are out there that the law mandates a waiting time.

It's easy to say "wait 72 hours" when you don't think it applies to you. You don't have to take off work, making arrangements for your life to meet an arbitrary time requirement set by someone with a political agenda that discounts the personal decisions you have made for yourself and your family.

It's a ridiculous law.

Richard- you must be vegan, right? I would hate to call you a hypocrite.

Indeed, some people are too stupid to make a decision. So if they've already made it, why make them wait? If anything, that encourages these stupid people to change their mind and then fuck up a child's life. Those who really shouldn't procreate are the ones who would likely be convinced to go through with the pregnancy because they tend to be shortsighted. Whereas a woman who is intelligent enough to realize that having a baby at that particular time is not in her or the kid's best interest will not be swayed in three days. It's unnecessary. Like another commenter said, we are not children. Stop treating us as such. Damn.

Richard Kyles
Richard Kyles

Yeah you should definitely plan murder 3 days in advance.

Richard Kyles
Richard Kyles

Abortion is murder plane and simple , so sure it's your "right" to murder an unborn child , but let's remove the possibility of you needing to do it again.

Kimberly Schaefer

No need to confirm or deny, but NO ONE who hasn't experienced an abortion can say how a woman feels before/during/after or how long it takes to make such a decision. Until you fall into that category, all you got is assumptions which makes you no different than the government.

Brenda McBride Watson

Big brother trying to run people's lives. I think most women have given the decision to have an abortion ample thought prior to their arrival at the clinic. It's not like pregnant people are just driving down the road going hey there's an abortion clinic why don't I just swing in there and terminate my pregnancy?

Earl Kliethermes
Earl Kliethermes

I see the point but abortion is irreversible. Sometimes sense has to trump "ain't nobody gonna tell me what to do." It's the woman's right but 72 hours is certainly reasonable. The same people take longer to decide on a car purchase.

Sara Ivie-Trankler
Sara Ivie-Trankler

There are people too stupid to make decisions. Stop pretending we are all created equal. We aren't.

Dani Bock
Dani Bock

Sara you of all people should realize then it's not about whether or not the choice is taken at this time. It's the continual slide backward into placing women in the same category as children incapable of making decisions about ourselves without others stepping in to guide us because we are obviously too stupid to make our own choices.

Dani Bock
Dani Bock

For the pill based abortion there is a nine week window. Frequently women don't know they're pregnant right away. It's quite easy to force three days on them that removes the option of a safe more affordable abortion and a more painful and expensive surgical one. Being pregnant does not make a woman not human anymore we still have a mind. Why is it only this decision we have to wait and think about? If we are so inept at making decisions maybe they should make us wait three days to accept a job or whether we should get a driver's license, or married. All are life changing decisions and we obviously are not capable of making those without someone else guiding us.

Sara Ivie-Trankler
Sara Ivie-Trankler

Stop making everything a fight. Nobody is taking a choice. I was in Kansas FYI, where I waited 3 days and drove 3 hours, I walked through a picket line, called a whore and murderer. I want women to understand the decision. I don't believe it is murder until 24 weeks, after that only for exceptional cases. I worked for pp. So spare me the bullshit.

Is that Ron Ford, Toronto's Mayor, in the background ????? What's he doin' in Missouri ?????

Oh my god, these comments! Some are great, but I'm seeing a lot of "it would give the woman time to think about it." Do you really think having an abortion is something that a woman does on a whim? It is a VERY difficult decision to make, and I assure you it is never just a spur-of-the-moment type thing. FYI, there is ALREADY a 24 hour waiting period, AND you have to see the sonogram (but the heartbeat is optional, thank god) before you go through with it..

Brandon Herges
Brandon Herges

I was referencing the fact that a required three days consideration time doesn't affect the individuals who are up in arms about this at all, unless they're doing that, which clearly they aren't. The three day requirement is designed to prevent on a whim decisions, which logically could cause some serious mental health repercussions. The state is essentially saying "Yea, it's a difficult decision, so let's make sure nobody does something they'll regret. Shouldn't bother people who already have done serious consideration."

Jamie Van
Jamie Van

Don't think for a second that women just have abortions on a whim. It is a very difficult decision that she has probably thought about A LOT. Why 72 more hours?

Jamie Van
Jamie Van

Think about it; would 72 more hours have changed your mind? I seriously doubt it. No matter how long you wait, it is a very difficult and painful decision. In a lot of cases, women have to travel far for the procedure, and it may not be possible to get another 2 hour car ride in 72 hours.

Eric Wright
Eric Wright

I see no problem with the 72 hour wait... You are basically taking a life. You have to wait over 3 days to just buy a gun and you may take a life with that too????

In Exodus 21:22 it states that if a man causes a woman to have a miscarriage, he shall be fined; however, if the woman dies then he will be put to death. It should be apparent from this that the aborted fetus is not considered a living human being since the resulting punishment for the abortion is nothing more than a fine;   it is not classified by the bible as a capital offense.According to the bible, destroying a living fetus does not equate to killing a living human being even though the fetus has the potential of becoming a human being.   One can not kill something that has not been born and taken a breath.

ronkabidy1
ronkabidy1

Correct, and we have laws about killing children. A zygote or fetus, however is not a baby. An acorn is not a tree, an egg is not a chicken...

lady_rogue_86
lady_rogue_86

Thank you for trying to understand that no matter one's belief system, abortion is a very important decision that effects many lives, not just that of mother and unborn child and should not be taken lightly or treated like birth control. And that no one who hasn't had to experience it can't comprehend the real weight of the choice.

heidiw819
heidiw819

You assume that women don't have enough sense to realize that abortion is not reversible and that the moment she sees those little pink lines she is off to get one.  This is the problem with this law, it assumes that women aren't capable of making an important, personal, and difficult decision by themselves.

ronkabidy1

Did you take 72 hours before getting your Viagra filled? This is a legal MEDICAL procedure between a WOMAN and doctor. Small republican government should stay the hell out of my uterus!

"I worked for PP, so my judgmental ideas on the subject are ok."
Just like saying, "I have a black friend, so whatever racist crap comes out of my mouth is ok."

How to know without being in the situation?  Most people don't get into car accidents so why require seat belts? You can usually leave the stove turned on and nothing bad happens....  Jeez. Get off your horse and look around.

mrsbrry
mrsbrry

It's not on a whim. The woman has to make an appointment and then wait for that day to arrive. You don't walk in off the street and demand an abortion like you order fries at McDonalds. This law would have women make 2 appointments. The first appointment would be made to go in at a later date and at that point make an appointment for another appointment. It's absurd. Imagine you need a root canal. So you make an appointment on Monday to go in that Thursday. Then when Thursday rolls around, you take time off work, drive 3 hours to your dentist(he is the only dentist in the state that performs root canals), sit in a waiting room, then when it is your turn, you make another appointment for 3 days later for the actual root canal. How is that not a pain in the neck?

a.melissa.needles
a.melissa.needles

AND it ALSO prevents women, and the majority of them that have low income or hourly based jobs or inadequate transportation or an abortion provider 200 miles from their home from utilizing services. Columbians and the like would have to drive to KC or St Louis for 3 days without pay, without request off from activities, without their families. That is ludicrously inconveniant to any woman who does not live within a close mile radius of the one Missouri abortion clinic. That can inconvenience even the most ready and willing patient.

ronkabidy1
ronkabidy1

I regretted my last husband and buying a Yugo. Your point? Do you not think women haven't spent a week or two making this decision to begin with? You are ignorant. This is a LEGAL procedure and to be discussed between a woman and doctor, certainly not the friggin government. In all actuality, this BEVER should have BEEN a government issue. Do we have a 72 hour window for Viagra, penile implants? Botox or boob jobs? What about a face lift? ALL medical procedures...have nothing to do with men in government.

earlsmusic

You speak for all women as if you have their consent and as if all women have the same mind, same pressures, same character. That does not speak of mental stability nor a grip on reality.

You are really stretching your argument here. You sound like you want your mind changed and that isn't anyone's business to do.

Good, glad you have no problem with it, YOU wait 72 hours for your abortion. WAIT...THIS doesn't affect YOU.

pentegirl2007

@mrsbrry Why would GOD want you to kill his creation. What if Jesus had been aborted.

smdrpepper
smdrpepper

@pentegirl2007@mrsbrryBeing mythological characters in a fictional book, what does it matter?  Its like what if Harry Potter was aborted and makes about as much sense.  We are not "created" for the record, there is a whole biological process in there.

Once again, if you dont like abortion, dont have one.  But it is not up to you to force everyone else into your line of thinking, however delusional you may be.
