A week after helping the Missouri Tigers win the Cotton Bowl, sophomore receiver Dorial Green-Beckham was arrested in Springfield after police found a pound of weed in the car.

Green-Beckham and four people in their twenties were pulled over just before 10 p.m. Friday night when a police officer noticed the car's plates were expired by three months.

The officer smelled marijuana, eventually searching the car to find a pound of weed and drug paraphernalia. Police arrested driver John McDaniel, 22, Pat Prouty, 20, and Green-Beckham on suspicion of felony distribution of a controlled substance.

The men were released Saturday morning without bond pending a laboratory testing.
Green-Beckham's father, John Beckham, says he's confident his son won't be charged, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Fans took to Twitter to tell Green-Beckham to steer clear of the green. If he's charged with a felony, he'll be suspended until the case is resolved. If he's convicted, he'll be dismissed.

Green-Beckham responded to critics, saying:

This isn't Green-Beckham's first rodeo. He was arrested with two other teammates in October 2012 outside Memorial Stadium on suspicion of marijuana possession, eventually pleading guilty to second-degree trespassing. All three players were suspended for the next game.

The other two people in the car with Green-Beckham were not arrested or named because police don't know how they're related to the incident, police told the Maneater.

Green-Beckham was an integral part of the season that solidified Missouri's place in the Southeastern Conference. He caught six passes for 144 yards and two scores during the conference championship against Auburn, and his 27-yard third-down catch set up a touchdown from Henry Josey to help beat Oklahoma State in the Cotton Bowl.

So, it's pot. We need to legalize and stop creating criminals from our current drug laws!

Shawn Carter apparently they've legalized marijuana possession in Missouri!!!! IF YOU ARE A DIV 1 FOOTBALL PLAYER!!!

I'm all for legalization, but this guy is a moron. He won't get charged with anything because he's a privileged football player and they'll let him slide. I know from this type of experience dealing with football players and weed..he was part of a drug dealing operation. Nobody casually has a pound of marijuana for "personal use". The other guys will have to take the fall for the whole thing while he get's off with minor charges.

I'm sure he'll move on to have a great NFL career making millions either way. Idiot.

Maybe so but for now it isnt and to trade weed for a career in football is just plain stupid.

Michelle Accardi

Just stupid. Is trading your career for an illegal good time or a little money worth it? You can go play after your career.

I've been gone for a very long time, but I'm pretty sure using cotton and weed in the same breath to mock a black man is still incredibly racist. I guess things are different now, at least at the RFT. On the other hand, anyone with that pathetic excuse for a chin strap beard deserves all the mocking we can muster.

What a joke. All the money he helps bring to the university and all the attention he brought to the tigers and get gets in trouble for a lil weed? What a messed up system

On the news they kept saying his father said he wasn't arrested. This is his second time so his father should've been outraged at his behavior and not worried about whether they arrested him or not. How can a pothead play football correctly?

I still don't think it's a big deal.

Pretty sad when a college student doesn't know the difference between happen and happened.

4 other people in the car and the media focuses on him. did it say the pound of weed was on him or in the car? Until they say it was on him only then will I say he is guilty. the whole thing is BS just blaming him!

@helbig  It's pretty sad when a person commenting on the internet about grammar doesn't know the difference between a sentence fragment and a complete sentence.

@vwvwv@helbigIt's pretty sad that you evidently don't find anything wrong with the improper use of happen in a sentence. Lol
