Anti-Evolution Bill Lets Parents Pull Students from Class, Gets Missouri on the Daily Show

Brattin's bill made it onto the Daily Show last week. Stewart made fun of the bill as a way to "punish" students' brains.

House Bill 1472 is not yet scheduled for discussion in the Missouri Legislature. His previous bills about evolution died.

Many kids already go to Catholic schools where they don't teach evolution.

Anti-Evolution bill? So what if parents want to pull their child from that. They should be allowed to do so. It's called liberty. You should try it.

Never gonna pass. If it does, maybe St. Louis should secede and form its own city-state so we don't have to put up with this freakshow Missouri is putting on.

Missouri should be ridiculed for that!

How's this jerks... I'm a conservative atheist, and I feel like both sides should be discussed. Why is God and faith so bad for our little ones? If you raise your children to think they're gonna make that call on their own. The concept of God is not bad guys and there's a lot of history worth mentioning in that bible.

Newton proposed a THEORY of Gravity, not a law. Hopefully by the time I have children, there'll be a notification system for that subject too so I can tell my kids they have an invisible tail chaining them to the Earth's surface instead.

The bible does tell you to not question this god character. So, implicitly it survives by us staying ignorant. Once we wise up through inquisition and invstigation, we get to leave the "garden" of ignorance, just like Adam and Eve did. And then this god character can't survive.

This is stupid nd a waste of taxpayer dollars!

Just because you're stupid, doesn't mean you should be allowed to make your kids stupid, and call it a religion. It's time to put religion in the closet where it belongs.

Thank you Charles Forsythe for the website. Religion and it's beliefs has no place in or nation's public schools.

Theory : idea formed by speculation. Hypothesis: theory needing investigation. I will check out that site. thank you.

Apparently all you have to do is call yourself a "Science Buff" and it's good enough to be called an expert by anyone who is afeared of the way science actually works.

Oh and I'm pretty sure there is no theory of creationism

Ridiculous, this could be the worst thing to happen to Missouri. There's alot of stuff in school that is questionable.. That doesn't mean we need to confuse kids more, that's what this will do.

The way to teach children, in my opinion, is to simply introduce them to an idea and, over time, let them come to a conclusion of that idea, on their own. The theory of Evolution may be wrong; the theory of Creationism may be wrong. The point is not to teach what is, but instead, to teach what could be. So my opinion, respectfully, is to disagree with this bill. Simply because it is putting a restriction of knowledge that could be otherwise useful to coming up with ones own conclusions. Let the kids decide.

Luckily he is up for re-election.  However, I don't know if anyone is running against him.  I am embarrassed for having to share this state with him.

The Bible does NOT say to stay ignorant. That's what some CHURCHES say to do.

Natural selection at work, actually .. Its a competitive world out there ... if these numbskulls want to take their kids out of the game and fill their heads with distracting nonsense while the world rolls on without them, then so be it. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, as my old mother would say ..

Once again we have another moron that doesn't understand the difference between a Theory and a Hypothesis.

Shayne Hummel

Evolution and Darwin's( key word here) "theory" not to be confused with fact, we still don't know the "facts" on the origins of mankind.

This is just embarrassing.  Why would anyone let this sort of legislation even be written up?  All it does is institutionalize stupidity and ignorance.

@chesterlampkin I know...keep religion in religious studies classes and science in science classes.

There're no 'two sides'.  The scientific community decided on this a long time ago.  It's not a debate.  It's just scientists that know about evolution laughing at creationists idiocy.

The concept of god not bad?  Have you read the bible?  There is no more horrific self centered character in all of literature than the god of the bible.

successm3

@kylenicholasowens sorry dude, that's not how science works.  There is no 'theory of creationism'.  You obviously don't understand what the word 'theory' means in science.  Please tell me your post was in jest.  You don't 'decide' science, you prove it.  I'm trying to be polite here, but you are what is wrong with people today.

Evolution is a fact. We can and do observe change in allele frequency within a population over time. The THEORY of Evolution attempts to explain how all those changes in allele frequency, when compounded over geologic spans of time, led to the diversity of life today.

@court785 oh no. It's a similar debate when it comes to climate science and activism. Drives me nuts. Same discussion over and over.
