Aunt Claudette Exposes Target's Hatred for Fat People, Is a National Treasure

CNN iReport
Aunt Claudette Higgins in her Target exposé.
If Target doesn't want obese shoppers in its stores, it should stop selling snacks.

That's the news according to Claudette Higgins, the world's best reporter in a bejeweled neck brace.

Higgins posted a scathing "exposé" on the Target store in Bridgeton Monday, alleging that the store has stopped selling plus-size clothing to discriminate against what she calls "obese shoppers."

"Apparently, Target hates fat people," Higgins says in her big scoop on CNN iReport. "Larger women go in search of fashionable clothes and are turned away."

Higgins even swaps her signature floral nightgown for a more professional-looking fleece to interview a fellow obese shopper who is equally outraged at Target's anti-fat discrimination.

"I think Target needs to get it together, or I'm not going to be able to shop there," says Libbie Cook. "I'm going to have to go to Walmart, and who wants to buy clothing at Walmart? I know I don't."

Target needs to either stock plus-size clothing or stop selling snacks, Cook says.

"Fat people like snacks," she adds.

Higgins is used to getting the big scoop...or at least getting close to it. In October she tried to interview Justin Bieber -- or "Dustin," as she calls him -- when he played a show in St. Louis, but couldn't because "apparently he has a very bad case of the diarrhea today," she said.

Covering Bieber is how Higgins got the name Aunt Claudette. In her angry video-letter to "the owners of that TV program called the Grammys that I watched last night," -- her most-viewed video -- she lays into the music awards for overlooking her great-nephew for the 2011 Best New Artist Grammy, which went to Esperanza Spalding.

"To think that they would take the Grammy away from my, away from Justin, and give it to this gal who plays a fiddle is a crime," Higgins says, clearly overcome with emotion.

We can't get enough of Higgins' videos, so we put a bunch of them on page 2.

What great motivation to lose some weight. If you notice that it's hard to find clothes that for you, due to an unhealthy lifestyle......that should be the first indication that it's time to change something

But you could at least shop in the boy's section for smaller clothes. And you can still buy shits without a problem. So no... not really being discriminated against, sorry.

She's right, though. Why take the plus size clothes out of the stores if they don't dislike fat people and their money?? Women over a size 16 have very few places to shop for stylish clothes to begin with. (Even fewer places carry men's big and tall.) The two rinky-dink racks they had before were better than none. Being forced to shop online is bullshit. Skinny people already get their clothes for cheaper, but now companies expect us to PAY to return things when they don't fit (ie shipping and "restocking fees"). And guess what? When you can't try clothes on before you buy them, they rarely fit! I do believe this is a form of discrimination and i, for one, won't be shopping at my Target if they stop carrying plus size clothes. They don't need my fat-tainted money.

Ryan Gosling is such a great guy. He offers such great advice to all fat people of the world. I'm sure he is a closeted fat guy and that is why he can't use his "real" picture for all of us to see. He, not Aunt Claudette is a National Treasure.

So, I'm 6'4" and for the sake of argument, "big boned". I have ABSOLUTELY NO USE for Target, Mervyn's or any other Dayton Hudson store. 40/34 and 13.5 EEEE. Target thinks I should only be 36/32 and 12D. Look like Jethro Bodine in Target wear! If JCP goes under guess I'll wear a loincloth.

Here's an idea... quit being so fat that you can't find clothes your size in a regular store like target.

Right on, Kat. I have been guilty of this ugliness before and I feel deeply ashamed. Unrealistic and dangerous standards of body dimension are being fed to us through the media constantly. No wonder so many of us have serious depression and insecurity about our natural born bodies. :-(

Some people have legitimate health problems that make them gain weight. I think a lot of you forget that. Everyone should strive to achieve a healthy lifestyle but being overweight doesn't mean you can't be healthy just like being skinny doesn't mean you are.

All overweight people have the ability to lose weight. I you dont like what Target is doing either shop somewhere else or get over it. Its like youre promoting obesity Kat.

Autozone doesn't sell plus-sized clothes either.  I guess plus-sized people need to find a place that does and stop blaming others for their problems.

First off, Bill, my name is Kat. Not Kate. And no, it's not "common sense." Every person is different. I assume that you don't have a medical degree - please, correct me if I'm wrong - so until you earn that I reckon you can keep your diagnoses and recommendations to yourself. Sure, I'd say most of us - including you, Bill! - could stand to clean up our diets and move more. We could also stand to be more tolerant of folks who look differently than us and not be utter and total shitheads when leaving comments.

I'm so glad this turned into a fat-shaming thread, because that's what we need. Cool. Oh, and for the record - the total number of folks on this thread who have the right to make blanket statements about what fat people should or shouldn't eat or do with regards to exercise is ZERO.

That lady's body is not natural born. She ate her way to that. Let's be honest.

I think those people are a minority of obese people.  I don't see obese people having salads for dinner.

Fat is defined as a natural oily or greasy substance occurring in animal bodies, esp. when deposited as a layer under the skin or around certain organs.  When someone calls a person fat, it is because they are. Just because people are forced to acknowledge that they are indeed fat and get emotionally offended doesn't change the fact of it's definition.
