MU Wants to Reignite Missouri-Kansas Football Rivalry, But KU Is Too Busy Pouting

Will Mizzou ever play against Kansas in football again?
It has been two years since former rivals the University of Missouri Tigers and the University of Kansas Jayhawks faced off on the gridiron.

MU head coach Gary Pinkel told football fans this week that he'd like to reinstate the annual Border War rivalry game, especially since the Southeastern Conference declared its teams must play an opponent from another major conference every year starting in 2016.

But Pinkel says Kansas, one of the worst-performing teams in the Big 12 Conference, doesn't seem to keen to take on Missouri, which won its first-ever SEC East title and the 2014 Cotton Bowl Classic last season.

"There's some pouting going on still" on the Kansas side, Pinkel said in a Google Hangout on Wednesday.

"We want to play Kansas again," Pinkel continues. "It was a great rivalry we had all those years. It's been an open invitation."

Missouri and Kansas played annually from 1891 to 2011. They only skipped one year, 1918, when Mizzou had to cancel its season due to an influenza epidemic, according to the Columbia Daily Tribune. The Border War games stopped in 2012, when the Tigers left the Big 12 for the SEC.

"It's unfortunate, but it will happen again someday," Pinkel says of the rivalry. "It will. It would be great for our fans. In every sport, it would be good. We'll see what happens."

Your move, Jayhawks. Your move.

Mizzou can't have it both ways. They cast their lot. It's like divorcing your wife and then still wanting to be able to bang her.

Actually as a St. Louis fan I'm much more interested in Missouri-Illinois.

@DavidSTLhss please. Because they don't win? You're kidding, right? MU sports is an ethical, moral and cultural disaster.
