Welcome to St. Louis, the city with the third nicest drivers!
You may feel the road rage during rush hour, but a new study says St. Louis drivers are actually the third nicest in the country.

St. Louis comes in right behind No. 1 Portland and No. 2 Pittsburgh on a list of the most courteous drivers in the U.S., according to a study commissioned by roadside assistance provider AutoVantage. Houston was named the city with the worst road rage.

Researchers ranked cities based on surveys with 2,500 adults age 21 and older who personally drive in rush-hour traffic three days per week or more in America's 25 largest cities.

Compared to other cities, St. Louis drivers are the least likely to see another driver running a red light, shaking a fist at a driver or tailgating another car.

St. Louis drivers seem to have gotten nicer in the last five years. When AutoVantage commissioned a similar study in 2009, St. Louis was named No. 8 for most courteous drivers.

The results also show that while drivers have cut back on several distractions, texting while driving is still a serious problem. Observations of texting while driving increased by 9 percent between 2009 and 2014, while observations of eating, drinking and talking on the phone while driving went down by more than 11 percent.

The five cities with the most courteous drivers are, in order, Portland, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, San Francisco and Charlotte. The five cities with the least courteous drivers are Houston, Atlanta, Baltimore, Washington, D.C. and Boston.

lol! This is absolute bullsh!t.  I've been a regular Missouri driver for years, and I've driven the highways to and from work quite a bit for OVER A YEAR straight!

"3rd-most-courteous"

based on WHAT?  I can't tell you how many times I've noticed some jacka$$ coming into my lane and NOT using a turn signal or DRIVING RIGHT PAST ME instead of letting me in with my signal on (even though there was PLENTY of room between me and his car).  Or how about all the tailgating and following too closely?

Or how about the MORONS who don't know how to turn?  I'm pretty sure you're supposed to SPEED UP as you turn, not turn BARELY faster than you were while waiting for the right moment.  Hell, some idiot ALMOST HIT ME yesterday because of that crap!  I was within MERE SECONDS of possibly hitting him lest I slowed down. I had to slow down to ALMOST 10 OR 5 MPH, and then I, of course, promptly honked to let the f*cker know he screwed up.  It was the least I could do.  I rarely honk, so when I do, you know you f*cked up.

I mean, the idiot COULDN'T BE F$CKED to SPEED UP as he turned so I DIDN'T HAVE TO slow down so much? This isn't a hard concept, people!  For god sake...

Idiots, I swear...

And who the f*ck is "AutoVantage"?  WHO here even uses them, let alone KNEW of them before this article??  Is that, like, the poor man's AAA or something?

In most states you get a ticket for driving in the left lane while not passing.... And not using blinkers...

MO driver's can be very inconsiderate. Staying in the passing lane even if you aren't passing. Then is someone tries to go around since you won't move, you wanna race

Shortly after moving to St. Louis I learned the definition of the “St. Louis Second.” It is the length of time between when the traffic light turns green and the guy behind you starts honking! St. Louis drivers aren’t that bad. Baltimore is the worst in my humble opinion.

I now know I must move back and restores the city's reputation at the bottom.

Um yeah totally. What's the metric equivalent of one courtesy again? A cubic blinker?

Compared to Virginia Beach, Missouri has courteous drivers unless you're a woman in a white SUV on her cell phone, then you are more discourteous than New Yorkers, and that's no compliment

The drivers here, have tail gate fever. They also show rage, if you don't drive very fast. Whoever did this poll, was on something...

Compared to Boston, St. Louis drivers are wonderful.

Have you ever been at a four way stop and someone else waves you to go first and then you angrily wave at them, "No! You go you fucking asshole!" St. Louis is part of this because of its passive aggressive courtesy due to all of the four way stops all over the place. Plus there is a slight chance you may know the person who is pissing you off.

I have lived in many cities in the US and outside. St. Louis drivers aren't that bad aside from an entire city driving at or below the speed limit. Most people in STL drive like drug dealers. Haha.

Every city thinks it has the worst drivers. Actually if you travel a lot you know that St. Louis is one of the safest places to drive.
