Ellie Kemper tells Seth Meyers why St. Louis loves Jon Hamm.
Ellie Kemper is totally jealous of Jon Hamm's St. Louis Cardinals bobblehead.

And really, who can blame her? Kemper, the sprightly star of the upcoming Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, from co-executive producer Tina Fey, has known Hamm since he was her eighth-grade drama teacher.

"He's like the prince of St. Louis," Kemper told Seth Meyers during an appearance on his late-night talk show last week. "Everyone just adores him there."

Maggie Duckworth is ready to leave Earth forever.
The day that Maggie Duckworth said her first word was not, until then, a special day.

Duckworth's family had just returned to her childhood home in Bridgeton after running errands -- Duckworth can't remember exactly what kind of errands -- when she stopped and turned her eyes to the sky.

"I pointed up at the stars, and I just said, 'Home,'" Duckworth, 30, tells Daily RFT. "They knew that I was destined for space."

Three decades later, as the only St. Louisan named as a finalist for the Mars One mission to build a human colony on the Red Planet, Duckworth feels her destiny may be coming true. A lifetime of peering through telescopes, making star charts and dreaming of space has prepared her to compete fervently for one of twenty-four one-way tickets to Mars.

This year's ride comes Saturday, January 10, one day before the national No Pants Subway Ride, which started with seven riders in New York City in 2002. Riders get on trains around 5:30 p.m. and get off at the afterparty downtown around 6 p.m. (Full schedule below.)

She's got you, babe.
You can't spell Cherokee Street without Cher.

Jessie Wright, her boyfriend Joe and their son, August.
Jessie Wright wants the American dream. She just wants it smaller.

Wright is building a new house for her family -- a place of their own, a true home, she says -- but this isn't your typical house. Wright, her boyfriend and their baby August will move into a "micro house," 190 square feet of space built onto a 25-foot trailer.

"All the principles of happiness are broken into only having the amount of stuff you can handle," Wright tells Daily RFT. She's updating followers on her tiny house adventure on her blog, This Tiny House Family. "I've gotten used to having fewer things. Our kitchen is down to 100 most useful objects."

Bathing for a good cause. Big photos below.
You know those calendars where good-looking firefighters take off their shirts to raise money for charity? This is like that -- only it's plumbers.

But it's still a good cause! And some of them are, you know, hunky. For your viewing pleasure, Daily RFT brings you the "Men of Spengler," an O'Fallon, Illinois, charitable endeavor.

The company, Spengler Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, is now spreading the word about its 2013 calendar, which the business hopes will help them donate $20,000 to local fire departments through its newly formed "Spengler Everyday Hero Fund."

"Sign Man" Marty Prather Reserves His Best Work For Chicago Cubs

Marty Prather, 53

For the Cardinals' home opener series against the Cubs last weekend, "Sign Man," also known as Marty Prather, came prepared. Well, Prather always comes prepared -- the Springfield resident has upward of 40 hand-painted signs jammed in beside his seat along the first-base line -- but he goes all out when the Cubs are in town. During Saturday's game, we counted ten different signs meant to humiliate the Cubs, not to mention the white banner with a dark blue "W" on it, not unlike the one that flies over Wrigley Field after a Cubs' victory, only Prather's says "When?"

"What is the source of this hatred?" we wondered. Why go to such efforts to denigrate the opposing team? We maneuvered our way through the crowd to ask him. We were wearing a Cubs cap and T-shirt, but the Cards had just scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth, so we figured he'd be in a good mood. Anyway, being a Cubs fan makes you strong and immune to most heckling.

I'm guessing you're either a Cardinals fan or a shopping mall Santa Claus with too much time on his hands. [Laughs.] One of the two. I'm not sure which yet, I haven't figured it out.
