Small Plates, Thursday, 1/11

www.cafebalaban.com

Cafe Balaban will close for renovations on Monday, January 22. New owners Brendan Marsden and Harlee Sorkin will reopen the Central West End mainstay on Thursday, February 8. Taking over Balaban's kitchen will be Andrew White, previously the executive chef at Harvest.

Meanwhile, Harvest has named Nicholas Miller its new executive chef. Miller has been with the Richmond Heights restaurant for five years, most recently as sous chef.

The new year is shaping up to be a busy one for the St. Louis restaurant scene. Arthur Clay's, Tejas and Mira have closed in recent weeks, though Mira will reopen as an expansion of Roxane, its "sister" restaurant. (For more on the relationship between the two restaurants, check out Rose Martelli's review.)
