Edmonds is excited.

Post-Dispatch columnist Deb Peterson has more details on Fifteen, the steakhouse-lounge that Jim Edmonds and partner Mark Winfield are opening at 1900 Locust Avenue.

On this thread at the Urban St. Louis message board, a poster named "fifteen," claiming to be Edmonds' partner, projects a late August or early September opening for the restaurant. For a look at the state construction on Fifteen as of a few weeks ago, check out this Gut Check post.

Of course, no day can pass without some news related to imported foods and the safety thereof. Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) introduced a bill yesterday that would attach a price to food imports. (Washington Post)

The basics:

...companies and countries exporting to the United States would pay up to $20 to the Food and Drug Administration each time they brought seafood, fruits or vegetables into the country. The bill would also require countries to show that their food-safety standards are equivalent to those in the United States and be certified.

Also, an in-depth look at Zheng Xiaoyu, the former head of China's food and drug administration, who the Chinese government executed this week. (New York Times)
