Mmmm...Doughnuts...

One of the more beautiful things about St. Louis is its surplus of doughnut shops that are not Dunkin' Donuts or Krispy Kreme. Mmmm...doughnuts...sugary, yeasty, deep-fried bits of goodness...

Sorry, got a bit carried away there. Ahem. Back to the point of this post:

Doughnut-eating in excess can lead to major sugar crashes and also guilt over fat-intake. If it would cause too much physical and spiritual agony to visit Donut Drive-In, World's Fair Donuts, or St. Louis Hills Donut Shop yourself, you can now do it vicariously via Alton Brown's oh-so-appetizingly-titled new Food Network show, Feasting on Asphalt. The episode first aired Saturday night, but will be re-run at various times during the week.

It has been said that the dream of every American is to appear on television, but the folks at World's Fair Donuts are unimpressed with their newfound fame. As of Sunday morning, owners Terry and Peggy Clanton still hadn't bothered to tune in.

"They came through in May," Peggy recalls, "on a Saturday, when we were really busy. They wanted to take the camera behind the counter. And we just wanted to serve doughnuts."
