Carolyn Downs makes traditional desserts as well as "snacks." Bourbon balls have the texture of softened fudge and a very strong bourbon flavor. An adult's dessert. Chess pie, a Southern classic, has a lovely, flaky crust and a pure, eggy sweetness. Another Southern touch: chocolate bread pudding served in a Dr Pepper sauce.
