FoodWire: The Shaved Duck Is NOT Dead -- Long Live the Shaved Duck!

Much talk about the fate of Tower Grove East gastropub the Shaved Duck (2900 Virginia Avenue) over the past few days. But rumors of its imminent demise were greatly exaggerated. Owner Ally Nisbet has sent out a press release to explain that the restaurant will close after service tonight -- but only for three weeks. The Shaved Duck will reopen on Tuesday, January 27, with a new concept. Nisbet's press release has the details:

We are retooling the menu, loading it up with approachable, rustic dishes designed to pair with our lengthy list of American craft beers. Favorites, like our Duck-Fat Frites and Duck Confit, will remain on the menu, but we'll be adding new items like meats smoked in-house, an educational chili tasting menu, substantial salads and flatbreads.

I am excited to tell you about some changes we'll be implementing at The Shaved Duck this month.

Our original concept at The Duck was based on our tagline "Classically European, Comfortably American". The new menu items reflect our desire to focus on the more American side of our concept. We'll continue the emphasis on high-quality food that chef Brendan Noonan has established.

We'll be temporarily closed after tonight's dinner service (January 3rd) in order to fine tune our new dishes, work with the new smoker and add a few new members to our team.

The Shaved Duck will reopen on Tuesday, January 27th, when we'll introduce acoustic live folk, old-time blues and jazz music to the calendar of events.

I am extremely proud of what chef's Brendan Noonan and Wes Johnson, bar manager, Patrick Thomas, General Manager, Sara Quiroz and the team have achieved at The Shaved Duck in 2008, and I want to pass on my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you who have supported us.

I'm looking forward to The Duck remaining a part of this city's rich dining culture and the Tower Grove neighborhood in 2009.

Sincerely,

Ally Nisbet, Owner
