FoodWire: El Scorcho to Become Las Palmas

Thanks to my colleague Annie Zaleski for sending along this tip over the weekend: Maplewood Tex-Mex joint El Scorcho (7356 Manchester Road; website) is not long for this world, if it hasn't already closed outright.

Its phone number and website remain active, and when I swung by this morning there were no obvious indications inside the restaurant that a big change was underway, but signs posted on its front windows announce a liquor-license hearing on Tuesday, September 8, for Las Palmas restaurant.

At Off the Menu, Joe Bonwich reports that the new Las Palmas is related to the original Las Palmas at 4030 Woodson Road. (There is a second location at 10092 Page Avenue, no longer related to the original.) I have a call in to that location for confirmation.

El Scorcho opened in June 2007. I reviewed it in September of that year.
