FoodWire: Tomato Festival at Modesto

​Yesterday was the annual La Tomatina festival in Buñol, Spain, a giant tomato food fight. Or, as we like to call it here at Gut Check International Headquarters, Wednesday. On Saturday, September 5, the popular Hill tapas bar Modesto (5257 Shaw Avenue; website) will hold a tomato festival of its own.

Modesto's Tomato Festival will run from 2-11 p.m. In the parking lot next to the restaurant, you can enjoy Spanish barbecue and water balloon fights. I don't know what will happen if you throw an actual tomato. You might want to call ahead.

From Tuesday, September 8, through Friday, September 12, Modesto will offer specials made with local tomatoes as well as tomato-themed drinks. For more info, call 314-772-8272.
