Via Huffington Post, which reports that NBC won't air a Thanksgiving-themed ad from PETA. Frankly, I think that's outrageous. Who the hell is offended by rainbows?
MediaCurves.com conducted a study among 321 viewers of PETAs Grace Thanksgiving advertisement. Results found that viewers were less interested in animal rights issues after viewing a controversial ad. More than one-third of viewers (36%) reported that the advertisement was not at all effective. In addition, more than half of the viewers (56%) indicated that the ad was disturbing. More in depth results can be seen at:

Thanks,

You know, the funny thing about this whole thread is that I had my thanksgiving meal, sans turkey, and I didn't even miss it. The point of the holiday is to spend time with your loved ones and be grateful for what you have...not eating turkey, last time I checked. Just because it's tradition, doesn't mean that's how it has to be done.
Animals eat animals. We are not exempt; though in the US we have the luxury and bounty of choosing not to eat animals if that's our preference. Let's be thankful for that and ask anti-human PETA to shove their proselytizing.
god, meatheads can be so stupid it's pathetic. "Are you serious" is talking about evolution like she knows something about it, but it is clear she knows nothing about biology since she thinks meat is the source of vitamin B12. B12 is not produced by any animal, it is produced by bacteria. And what do they give animals on factory farms? Antibiotics. So you'll be needing to take supplements too, sweetheart.
Honestly, there is no logical argument for eating meat. In every single case it can be deconstructed to show that it is fallacious, and the meathead must conclude that the only reason they do it is because they are selfish. That would be fine if it wasn't going to destroy the world as we know it; but since it will, stop being selfish you meathead losers and do something for the benefit of the one million plus other animal species we share this little planet with!
"We meat eaters have jobs and have to go work for most of the week."
I have a job too. Two of them, actually. AND I figure out how to feed myself without eating meat.
"If farmers have to inject those poor turkeys with antibiotics to keep them alive longer, then I guess I'll just have to live with that."
If injecting animals with antibiotics where the ONLY thing that happened in factory farms, you'd probably not see so many people upset. But given that you already have established yourself as someone that doesn't care about how the animals are treated because they were "raised for our use"....you go with that. Just realize that not everyone thinks that other animals are inanimate objects and that gives us to right to treat them as poorly as we wish to do so.
Yeah lets all raise our own food. That makes perfect sense... only that most people don't have that capability. Not only do we not know how to take care of them and feed them properly, but who the hell has time for that? Most people don't have enough time to raise their own food. We meat eaters have jobs and have to go work for most of the week. So as much as I would like to break the neck of my own turkey, I unfortunately do not have the time. And I for one don't care how they treat the animals. Those animals are bred to feed us and it would cost far too much to raise each animal as if it were a loved pet. If farmers have to inject those poor turkeys with antibiotics to keep them alive longer, then I guess I'll just have to live with that.
wow. its funny. this is probably the first reasonable ad from PETA that I've ever seen....oh well...instead of changing the world...why don't they start their own meatpacking industry that only makes happy healthy chickens...
Amen, izzy30. Sound arguments on all counts!
As for the rest of you meat lovers, shut up already. It's one commercial that isn't even being aired on mainstream TV. Yet, those of us who have made a decision (that's what human beings do) not to eat meat have to watch the dead carcasses of turkeys being paraded through most of the commercials on TV (even the ones NOT trying to sell food) ALL THE TIME.
Ultimately, there is an alternative. If you don't like it, who cares? Move on. Instead you spew your hate filled thoughts and abuses on posts where its really not going to make a hill of beans difference.
I can guarantee you this video will make at least one person stop for a moment and consider what food they are putting into their bodies. If more people did that, we would all be healthier and happier.
In a nation where we have an overabundance of food, technology and compassion, you would think people would want to make the food products we are putting into our bodies more safe and more healthy. And you would think we wouldn't be willing to turn a blind eye to the torture of animals. Shooting animals in the head to kill them for their meat or shoving them in cages and shooting them full of antibiotics and hormones that get into our systems, in our childrens' systems, is insane and it is torture.
People who don't eat meat don't get upset about animals eating meat because they are animals and they have no way to reasonably question their existense or it's impact on the world. Human beings do. And it's about time we all start asking some questions.
Want turkey on your table for Thanksgiving? Raise it and kill it your damn self or shut up and stop watching videos you know you won't like then regurgitating hate all over the damn place.
"Meat is supposed to be eaten - that's how our bodies work."
Really? Because mine's doing just fine without it. I'm healthy, a normal weight, and I actually get protein! Amazing.
"We're the top of the food chain." Really? That's a valid argument how? So since you're on the top of the food chain, why do you pay everyone else to do your dirty work for you? Meanwhile, I'll go out and gather some berries and do whatever else the, tired old use biological heritage and completely ignore available alternatives when it's convenient for you, arguments mandate.
"If it's wrong for us to eat animals, it's wrong for all animals to eat animals." Again, another argument that doesn't make sense. The issue that many, if not most, people who don't eat meat have is how inhumanely animals are treated in factory farms. Last time I checked lions were pretty much into free range, unless there's some lion McDonald's drive ups in Africa and Asia that I don't know about.
Oh, and by the way, being educated about where your food comes from and maybe caring about animals other than a dog or a cat doesn't make you some kind of preachy wimp. So you can throw that argument out too. :)
Dark sheds and poop make the turkey tender. I see no issue with being thankful for this.
@ppo: yes, because you get a boner, it naturally means you forcibly have sex with an unwilling parter.....
comon dude really? that transition makes NO sense at all. And sex isnt necessary for individual survival.. proteins from meat are. The only reason vegetarians survive in our present time is because we have found ways to produce those proteins in other foods.
i agree that PETA does use the same scare tactics that FOX news uses, so both are pretty fundamentalist. i think that eating a turkey is not the thing thats "wrong" here. its how the animals are handled at the farms, what they are fed, the conditions that they live in, and so on. i am a vegan who would gladly eat meat of an animal that is able to live the way it should live and is not fed chemicals. but if the average american wants to eat infected food and dollar meals, then let them. sooner or later their stupid genes will die out and leave the worlds vegetables to us!
Fuck PETA, we are at the top of the food chain for a reason. That reason is also why we are able to view the internet, laugh, love, hate and everything else the human experience entails.
@ppo: Idiotic analogies only make the other people's arguments stronger.
If you see people eating meat as the moral equivalent to owning slaves and raping women, you need to re-evaluate your sense of morals...I'm serious.
Is it wrong to use antibiotics to kill an infection? Are fly swatters as evil as nuclear bombs? Where do you draw the line?
Meat means living. Who thinks killing animals for food is evil, didn't get the concept of life at all. Killing animals to eat them is one of the basic concepts of nature. Nowaday we just do not have to hunt our food down anymore. We hunt efficiently by industrialized farming.
You say go Veg I say go Vag!!
Well, I for one HAVE seen this kind of animal abuse first hand, and I can say with great personal certainty that chickens and turkeys may very well be the most abused animals on the planet. You folks want your meat, and you want it CHEAP, meaning that the animals get raised as cogs in the machine and not as living, breathing, feeling creatures. You all are just reacting blindly because it makes you take an uncomfortable look at your own complicity in the animal abuse endemic in industrial meat production. Have the guts to look inside yourselves and admit it.
God i love eating meat. This Ad is making me so hungry... Besides we all know you dont win friends with salad.

jt3721 says: If they don't like to eat meat - fine. Doesn't mean the rest of us feel the same way.
hes right says: Meat is supposed to be eaten, it is the way our bodies work.

So I guess that means that if you don't care to have a black slave, I can still have one?
And if my dick goes up when I see a hot woman, it's ok for me to rape her because it's the way our bodies work?
@Tofurky
You are still wrong.. humans evolved as hunter gatherers, they still based their diet mostly on meat with supplements of plants and fungi.. We don't have claws so we improvised tools to help with that respect. Without technology and access to supplemental vitamins you would have to eat meat to acquire enough B12.. there is no way in hell a vegetarian could survive stranded in the wild without hunting animals. We are omnivores, eating meat is just as natural and necessary as eating plants.
PETA??? Are you serious??? PETA kills millions of strays each year. They dont have a adoption program so no matter the state of a 100% adoptable animal they put them down. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS PROGRAM!!! http://www.petakillsanimals.com/. Dont believe me??? or that website??? Run a search in google and see the hits that come back. Be informed of your support agencies! Dont give blindly.
I can see why they wouldn't air that. It's a total buzz kill.
I don't like turkey anyway.
so fish and crustacians dont count as animals right? well do your research peta had a fundraiser and served fresh lobster, meaning they killed them in the kitchen in a hot pot of water and then dipped them in a butter sauce. peta is a bunch of hypocrites. where are all my people for the ethical treatment of plants at. go meat!
no.
Without technology we would not be eating meet. Look at your fingernails. look at your teeth. You don't have the sharp claws or teeth of a lion. You have little natural ability to catch prey.
Poultry are usually kept in small cages, so disease spreads quickly. Therefore, they are given large doses of antibiotics. Those antibiotics get into you, making medicine less effective when you need it.
The birds are also given hormones to make their breasts grow bigger. But when you eat the bird you eat the hormones. Girls are hitting puberty earlier and earlier in part due to the hormones they consume through poultry.
hes right is EXACTLY right. If the PETA folks think that humans eating meat is wrong - then it's wrong for ALL animals to do so. So, why aren't they protesting that? There really are too many people with too much time on their hands.
all I kept thinking was... mmm turkey and gravy.
PETA Sucks
They probably won't show this ad on tv because it is completely inaccurate. I grew up in an area where turkeys are raised. I've seen the hatchery where the eggs are hatched. I've seen hundreds of turkey farms. I've toured the turkey processing plant many times. Turkeys are not packed in dark little sheds and their feathers are not burned off while they are still alive. What a ridiculous commercial. If you're going to make up stuff you ought to be able to come up with something better than this.
Yum! Can't wait for Turkey Day!
If PETA cared about animals they would spend more time saving them than they do making commercials. Over 95% of the animals in PETA's care were killed in 2008, less than 1% of them were adopted.

This video makes me so hungry Im going to eat a Turducken for Thanksgiving. For those of you PETA's that don't know what Turducken is, it is a dead Chicken in a dead Duck all stuffed into a dead Turkey. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!!
MMMM NOM NOM NOM CAN I HAS TEH DARK MEAT!
While tr738 might have been a little harsh, he is completely right. screw peta, we have become waaay to politically correct in this world. Meat is supposed to be eaten, it is the way our bodies work. If we had no technology and lived in the woods like the rest of the living beings in this world we would be eating meat and no one would have a problem with it. It is the fact that people have become so comfortable that shit starts to get out of hand. "its unfair for the turkey" yes it is, its unfair that they are lower than us on the food chain, but thats how the world works. Lets start protesting lions hunting their food, because we all know its unfair for a gazelle to die just because i lion wants to eat meat, omg what is wrong with the lions these days! comon people, get a life
Screw PETA. If they don't like to eat meat - fine. Doesn't mean the rest of us feel the same way. Bunch of under-employed whack jobs, anyway.
tr738, what a dunce. you sound like a plantation owner circa 1860.
Fuck PETA. Get back to weaving yoghurt or whatever you do and let the rest of us eat meat in peace, you self-righteous salad feltchers!
