FoodWire: Downtown Farmers' Market May Bow This Summer

farmersmarkets.JPG
The Downtown St. Louis Partnership is hungry for a farmers' market and has asked Patrick Horine to organize and operate it. Horine founded the Tower Grove Farmers' Market and is a co-owner of Local Harvest Grocery and Local Harvest Café & Catering in Tower Grove South.

Plans call for the market to operate mid-week, likely Thursday, with late-afternoon hours in order to entice the 30,000 or so downtown worker-bees clocking out at that time. The market would run from June through October at the Old Post Office Plaza

Horine and leaders of the Downtown Partnership met last week. But before committing to the project, Horine is polling vendors and farmers to gauge their interest. Supply -- many markets have opened in the past couple years -- and downtown parking could pose problems.
