Passover, Shmassover: Grocery Stores in St. Louis City Not Kosher for Passover?

Let my groceries go!

Passover begins at sundown on Monday, March 29. This means it's time for the annual scramble to restock the pantry with less-flavorful versions of everyday staples.

(There's a difference between "kosher for Passover" and just-plain kosher. The former's far stricter than the latter. You can read up here.

But as was the case last year, there's no place to purchase kosher-for-Passover items within St. Louis' city limits. Management at the Schnucks on Lindell in the Central West End was apologetic this year and promise to restock the kosher department for Passover 2011.

Of course, you can load up on Manischewitz at nearly every grocery in the region. As always, the Ladue and Clayton Schnucks are well-stocked with gefilte fish and kosher-for-Passover Coca-Cola products.

Additionally, Whole Foods has expanded its kosher offerings this year, and Trader Joe's remains a safe bet for matzoh. And don't forget to stock up on dried fruit!
