Tonight, as part of its "Good Gardening Good Food" film series, Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue; 314-241-2337) will host a screening of the documentary Fresh.

Here is the film's official synopsis:
FRESH celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing our food system. Each has witnessed the rapid transformation of our agriculture into an industrial model, and confronted the consequences: food contamination, environmental pollution, depletion of natural resources, and morbid obesity. Forging healthier, sustainable alternatives, they offer a practical vision for a future of our food and our planet.
Among those featured are farmers Joel Salatin of Polyface Farms (familiar to readers of Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma) and Russ Kremer of the Ozark Mountain Pork Cooperative. Kremer and the cooperative were the subjects of a James Beard Foundation award-winning profile by former Riverfront Times staff writer Kristen Hinman.

The film shows at 7:30 p.m. in the Crown Room of the Bottleworks. Admission is free, though donations are "appreciated."

Check back with Gut Check later today for a chat with Ana Sofia Joanes, the director of Fresh.
