Jimmy's on the Park Raises the Bar on Happy Hour
The (Happy) Hours: 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday
The Deal: $5 martinis, including specialty martinis. Half off select appetizers.
They had us at half-price apps...
The Scene: Hate to say it, but the best way to describe Jimmy's may be: nouveau riche. It's an urban bistro/café with atmosphere and a server whose main job it is to refill your water over and over. The martinis are made with decent vodka; the Blue Fin with Grey Goose, the Grapes of Wrath with Cîroc. The mixers don't drown the alcohol, but it's still an underwhelming pour. The spinach-and-artichoke dip, which is among the Happy Hour-discounted dishes, comes with pita chips, adding decadence.
Be warned that there are two separate menus, one for the bistro and bar and one for the café, which is slightly more formal. It can be confusing to know what area you're in or what menu items are available, so ask your server.
Why You'll Go Back: While the interior is sophisticated and chic, the true lure of Jimmy's is its patio. The lush greenery of Concordia Park across De Mun grabs you by the scruff of your office-weary neck and virtually impels you to order another drink.
The Verdict: There's really no social scene or "crowd" at Jimmy's on the Park, which is surprising. The highlight is quality food at discounted prices -- most of the cut-rate apps clock in at about $3. Definitely a higher-end happy hour, but ain't nothin' wrong with going classy for half price.
