After 134 years, New Orleans' P&J Oyster Company has ceased operations because of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig catastrophe. According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the company will not close entirely. They'll shuck as oysters are available, even if they have to ship them from the west coast. "The bottom line is that the guys that we purchase from are not working," said Sal Sunseri, P&J's co-owner.

Even the sports section of The New York Times has gone foodie. They've given a monthly food blog to New York Jets tight end Dustin Keller. Keller also co-owns six McAlister's Deli franchises in South Carolina.

Need more televised food competition? Next season the people who brought us Emmy-winners Project Runway and Top Chef will produce America's Next Great Restaurant. The NBC show will feature judges Bobby Flay, Chipotle founder Steve Ells, chef Lorena Garcia, and some guy from The Biggest Loser, deciding which restauranteur wannabe will get funding to open their own restaurant chain in three cities.
