Rising food costs put the world's poorest countries in even more danger of food insecurity and hunger. The Associated Press reports that the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization's food index prices show the price of dietary staples were 22 percent higher in March than a year earlier.

Art, food and archeology collide in France. The New York Times chronicles how artist Daniel Spoerri hosted a picnic for 100 in 1983 that ended with everyone throwing their leftovers, plates, flatware, and the table into a 40-foot trench to create a "banquet performance". Scientists recently exhumed the site to study how a picnic ages over 27 years.
