Bon Appétit has named Taste by Niche (1831 Sidney Street; 314-773-7755) one of the "Top 10 Best New Cocktail Bars" in its August issue. The blurb mentions mixologist Ted Kilgore's "Grey Fizz," a combination of gin, vermouth infused with Earl Grey tea, lemon and egg whites.

Kilgore already knew a cocktail recipe of his would be featured in the magazine's November issue. However, this honor was a surprise, and he discovered it when a friend posted the news on Facebook.

"I knew they that they were doing something," says Kilgore. "I had no idea what [specific] article they were working on."

Adds Kilgore, "Bon Appétit is one of the magazines I've subscribed to for quite a while. It feels pretty great."

What is Kilgore drinking to celebrate the honor? Gran Classico Bitter and Wild Turkey: "A few of my favorite things."

Fans of Kilgore's libations should know that he's nursing a cracked rib suffered during a recent trip to San Francisco. He can still shake cocktails, just not as vigorously as you have come to expect.
